THE SEARCH IS ON FOR LU’S NEXT PRESIDENT

It’s a three-way race for LU’s top post!

Three presidential aspirants who have been shortlisted for the Laguna University’s top post addressed the crowd in a public forum dubbed “Search for Laguna University President” held on March 6, 2020 at the Athletes’ Village lobby.

University officials, academics, staff, students, community representatives and industry partners trooped into the forum’s venue to watch and listen to the candidates’ presentations and speeches  as they individually introduced themselves to their would-be constituents, and bared their plans for the university should they be chosen as the next university president.

The shortlisted candidates vying for the position are Dr. Liza Bautista-Patacsil, currently the Director of the Research Promotion & Coordination Office (RCPO) under the Office of the Vice President for Academic Affairs, Malayan Colleges- Laguna;  Dr. Charlemagne  G. Laviña, presently the Assistant Vice President for Academic  Affairs of the Technological Institute of the Philippines-Manila (TIP); and Dr. Marita Rana Canapi, former President of the University of Rizal System.  They were introduced by Ms. Leah Teresa R. Javier, Provincial HRMO and Head of the Search Committee for President (SCP) Secretariat.

Each candidate was given 15 minutes to address the crowd and present his/her personal and professional qualifications for the position, to talk about his/her proposed vision, mission, and development goals for the university; and to discuss the ways to achieve them. Also, the candidates took the opportunity to highlight their administrative experiences and professional achievements crucial to the position they are applying for.

Meanwhile, the crowd in attendance was given opportunity to query the candidates. Each representative from various sectors in the university and in the community was given a chance to ask one question addressed to all candidates followed by randomly picked, pre-prepared questions from the audience.

Later in the day, the candidates were individually interviewed by the SCP members headed by Rev. Fr. Arthur B. Dingel, O.P., President of Colegio de San Juan de Letran-Calamba and Committee Chair; Mr. Cesar Mario O. Mamon,  CEO/Owner of the Enchanted Kingdom, and  Vice-Chair of the Selection Committee; and Dr. Amelia A. Biglete, CESO III and Director of the CHED Regional Office IV who acted as a member of the selection board. They were selected by the Board of Regents (BOR) to implement and monitor the selection process.

The SCP is expected to name and recommend to the Board of Regents (BOR) its top choice among the candidates within a week. The BOR is scheduled to meet on March 13, 2020  to discuss and finalize the search.
