Nagcarlan, Laguna — The Laguna University – College of Computing Studies (LU-CCS) conducted a four-day community extension program titled “CTRL + ALT + LEARN: Digital Bridges for Sustainable Community” at the covered court of Brgy. Kabubuhayan. The initiative was led by Community Extension Coordinator Mr. Vinboy Abraham Luyon and carried out on April 6–7 and April 20–21, 2026.
The second leg of the program was originally scheduled for April 13–14 but was moved to April 20–21 due to the jeepney transport strike, ensuring the safety and availability of both participants and facilitators.
The outreach activity aimed to enhance digital literacy among residents by providing hands-on training in computer networking and hardware, facilitated by Bachelor of Science in Information Technology (BSIT) students from different sections.
On Day 1 (April 6), students from BSIT SD 3A introduced participants to the fundamentals of computer networking. The session covered basic concepts such as network types, internet connectivity, and simple troubleshooting techniques. Community members were given practical demonstrations to better understand how networks function in everyday settings.
On Day 2 (April 7), BSIT SD 3B conducted a session on computer hardware. Participants learned about the essential components of a computer system, including their functions and proper handling. The workshop included demonstrations on assembling and disassembling computer units, promoting awareness of proper maintenance practices.
The program resumed on Day 3 (April 20), with BSIT SD 3D facilitating a more advanced discussion on networking. Topics included network setup, cabling standards, and basic configuration of networking devices. The session emphasized the importance of efficient and reliable network systems in modern communication.
On the final day, April 21, BSIT SD 3C led a session on hardware application and troubleshooting. Participants were guided through common technical issues and their corresponding solutions, allowing them to apply the knowledge gained from previous sessions. The hands-on activities reinforced practical skills essential for maintaining computer systems.
The four-day extension program highlighted the role of academic institutions in community development. Through the initiative, LU-CCS students were able to share their technical expertise while gaining valuable experience in community engagement.
Organizers noted that the activity strengthened the partnership between Laguna University and the local community while equipping residents with relevant technological skills. The program also underscored the importance of access to digital knowledge in supporting sustainable community growth.
The successful implementation of the CTRL + ALT + LEARN program reflects LU-CCS’s continued commitment to extending educational services beyond the classroom and fostering inclusive technological advancement..
