Laguna University, February 10β11, 2025 β The College of Computing Studies (CCS) Menβs Volleyball Team displayed teamwork, and fierce athleticism at the 2025 Laguna University Sportsfest, battling through challenging matches against powerhouse teams under both rain and pressure-packed rallies.
CCS vs. CBAA: Weathering the Storm
The CCS Maroon Spikers opened their campaign with a tough match against the College of Business Administration and Accountancy (CBAA) on a rainy afternoon at the Multi-Purpose Gym. CBAA took early control of the match, capitalizing on CCS’s serving errors and defensive lapses to claim the first set, 25β18.
The momentum shifted in the second set when server Tolitol delivered a series of powerful aces, sparking a CCS comeback. The team regained its footing and overwhelmed CBAA with sharp attacks and solid coordination, winning the set convincingly, 25β9.
The third and deciding set saw both squads trading spikes and blocks in a tense rally-for-rally duel. Corcuera, Modina, and Abergas led the CCS offense with precision and power, but CBAA ultimately pulled ahead late in the frame to seal the match.
CCS vs. CAS: A Close Fight in the Lower Bracket
Returning the next day, CCS took on the College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) in the lower bracket elimination. The opening set was a thriller, with both teams playing at a championship-level pace. CAS edged out CCS by a single point, 25β24, in a tightly contested frame.
Determined to stay alive in the competition, CCS bounced back in the second set, with Tolitol once again leading the charge. Fueled by key blocks and aggressive plays at the net, CCS leveled the match with a 24β23 win.
In the final set, fatigue set in, and CAS took advantage with strong service and consistent hitting. CCS fell 15β9, ending their Sportsfest campaign.
Team Captain Reflects
Team captain Tolitol praised his teammates’ efforts while acknowledging the challenges, particularly the impact of an injury to a key player:
βSa palagay ko may kulang sa team namin dahil nung na-injured si Reign, kinulang talaga kami ng depensa at ng spikers kaya lalo nahirapan kami.β
Despite the defeats, he remained optimistic about the teamβs future:
βNagpapasalamat ako sa kanila dahil buong puso nilang nilaban ang CCS. Masaya ako kung sila pa rin ang makakasama ko sa loob ng court next year at ilalaban ang CCS!β
The CCS Menβs Volleyball Team concluded their run without a medal but gained the admiration of the LU community for their fighting spirit. With more training and a full roster, CCS is poised to come back stronger and more competitive in the next edition of Sportsfest.
