In a major step toward community development and educational advancement, representatives from Laguna University (LU) and the Local Government Unit of Pagsanjan convened for a strategic consultative meeting on June 10, 2026. The primary focus of the dialogue was to explore a potential community extension partnership aligned with the 8-point program of the Provincial Government of Laguna which are anchored on the UN Sustainable Development Goals 2030. These include the following programs in Literacy, Socio-economic, Environmental Stewardship, Health and Wellness, Cultural Enhancement, Values Formation, Disaster Management, and Gender and Development.
The LU’s team included Ms. Czarina M. Esmerna, Director of the Community Extension Services Unit (CESU), Board Secretary Ms. Nayreen Aguilar, NSTP Coordinator Ms. Rhodora Custodio, Dean of the College of Education Dr. Rosalie Buban, and library staff member Ms. Arlene Francia. The diverse expertise of the delegation underscores the university’s intent to integrate student volunteerism, library resources, and academic leadership into the community-focused program.
The university’s team was warmly welcomed by Pagsanjan Mayor Januario Ferry “Jan” G. Garcia and his municipal staff. During the meeting, Mayor Garcia expressed strong interest in the collaboration, noting that the community extension programs align closely with the local government’s goals for its residents.
While the project is currently in its consultative phase, both parties expressed optimism about finalizing the partnership. Moving forward, subsequent discussions are expected to outline the specific projects, target barangays, and implementation timeline for the extension program, marking a shared commitment to empowering the community.
