Laguna University and Laguna Climate Change Office Raise Funds for Cancer Patients in Heartwarming Donation

In a heartwarming display of community solidarity, Laguna University, in partnership with the Laguna Climate Change Adaptation and Mitigation Office together with Helping Hands and Bandana Runners with the support of the Provincial Government of Laguna, held a successful Run for a Cause event on November 24, 2024. The event aimed to raise funds for individuals undergoing cancer treatment in the province of Laguna. All proceeds from the run were designated to assist those battling the disease, a cause that has garnered widespread support across the local community.

The Run for a Cause event brought together individuals from all walks of life who were eager to contribute to the fight against cancer. The initiative not only promoted physical health through the run but also demonstrated the university’s deep commitment to social responsibility and support those in need.

On January 30, 2025, the collaborative efforts of the organizers culminated in a significant moment of generosity. A donation ceremony was held, bringing together key figures from both Laguna University and the Laguna Climate Change Adaptation and Mitigation Office. Present at the event were the representative of Gov. Ramil L. Hernandez, Atty. Dulce H. Rebanal, the Provincial Administrator; Dr. Monette O. Bato, OIC University President of Laguna University; Dr. Rosemarie Sabado, OIC Vice President for Academic Affairs; Ms. Joselle A. Banocnoc, Community Extension Services Unit Director and Mr. Henry B. Halawig, Head of the Laguna Climate Change Adaptation and Mitigation Office.

Together, they presented a cash donation of ₱100,000 to two individuals undergoing cancer treatment, as part of the fundraising efforts from the Run for a Cause. The generous contribution will go directly to support their ongoing treatments, helping to alleviate some of the financial burdens that come with battling cancer.

This collaboration between non-government institutions, academic institutions, and community-driven initiatives underscores the importance of working together to make a meaningful difference. By combining resources and fostering a spirit of generosity, the event not only supported individuals undergoing cancer treatment but also highlighted the vital role of collective action in addressing pressing health challenges.

The donation ceremony was a powerful reminder of the impact that kindness and community engagement can have on individuals’ lives. It also reinforced the shared commitment of Laguna University and the Laguna Climate Change Adaptation and Mitigation Office to contribute positively to society—not just through environmental efforts, but by supporting health and well-being initiatives that matter to the people they serve.

As Laguna University continues to stand together in support of those in need, this Run for a Cause event serves as an inspiring example of how local communities can unite for a common goal—making a difference, one step at a time.
