Psychology students empower leadership values in Leadership Training Seminar

To cultivate empathy-driven leadership, Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Science in Psychology block officers participated in a Leadership Training Seminar titled “Leadership from Within: Leading with Heart and Mind” at Laguna University Covered Court, Feb. 3.

The event was organized by the Asosasyon ng Sikolohiya sa Unibersidad ng Laguna (ASUL) with the goal of empowering the student-leaders of the Department of Psychology.

The seminar featured insights from university officials and guest speakers who emphasized the intersection of psychology and management. BA Psychology Program Coordinator Mr. John Mark G. Lafavilla opened the event by introducing the Knowledge, Attitude, and Skills (KAS) where leaders must have to serve effectively.

Moreover, Dr. Marie Joy Elomina, Acting Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences, challenged students to transcend age and seniority. “Do not be intimidated. Leadership is not about age… you are the legacy… use your mind to mentor those below you.”

In addition, University President Dr. Charlemagne Laviña echoed these sentiments, stressing that leaders must touch the heart before asking for action.

In the keynote session, guest speaker Lenard D. Visaya focused on the inner process of leadership. He highlighted the importance of emotional intelligence and well-being, warning students that effective service is impossible under burnout.

Notably, he said that “good leaders do not sacrifice their well-being: they protect it so they can serve better.”

The seminar concluded with team-building activities and quiz bee followed by awarding of certificates.
