LU-MES Marks 2025 General Assembly with Thanksgiving, Academic Re-Orientation, and Recognition of Board Passers

The Laguna University Mechanical Engineering Society (LU-MES) conducted a thanksgiving and academic re-orientation program on August 19, 2025, at the Laguna Sports Complex Gymnasium. The event honored the recent passers of the Mechanical Engineering Licensure Examination (MELE) and Master Plumber Licensure Examination (MPLE), while also welcoming students to the new academic year. With faculty members, alumni, students, and board passers in attendance, the event highlighted both gratitude for past achievements and the commitment to academic and professional excellence.

The program began with registration and a Thanksgiving Mass led by a guest priest, who congratulated the board passers and highlighted the importance of perseverance, faith, and dedication. Engr. Joebert S. Melendrez, Mechanical Engineering Program Coordinator, then presented the academic guidelines and departmental policies, reminding students of the high standards they are expected to meet and the support available to help them succeed.

The introduction of faculty members and LU-MES officers fostered a sense of unity, while the oath-taking of student leaders formally entrusted them with their responsibilities. To close, an open forum gave students the chance to raise questions and concerns, which were openly addressed by faculty and administrators, creating a space for clarity and dialogue.

The afternoon program featured the highlight of the day: testimonial speeches from the successful board passers. Alumni engineers, namely Engr. Christopher Gary Cruz, Engr. Charlotte Librero, Engr. Gilna Claire Abing, and Engr. Jayvee Velasquez, took the stage to share their stories of struggles, strategies, and eventual triumphs in becoming licensed mechanical engineers and master plumbers. Their heartfelt experiences, coupled with a lively question-and-answer session, offered graduating students practical advice and inspiration on resilience, discipline, and the value of community support as they prepare for the licensure exams. To keep the energy high, a raffle draw added excitement and fun to the program, making sure the event wrapped up on a cheerful note and strengthened camaraderie among all attendees.

The event organized by LU-MES was a celebration, an orientation, and an inspiration all in one. The event honored the hard-earned success of board passers, guided students through the university’s academic standards, and promoted a stronger sense of unity within the Mechanical Engineering community. Beyond that, it became a meaningful space to motivate students, remind them of the values of discipline and perseverance, and prepare them as future engineers ready to take on the challenges of the new academic year.
