Laguna University’s Bachelor of Arts in Communication second-year students attended the 6th Sine Kabataan Short Film Screening and Competition as part of their film class activity. The event took place at Red Carpet Cinemas, Shangri-la Plaza, Mandaluyong on September 23.
Enthusiastic film students and enthusiasts gathered at the venue, occupying every available seat in the cinema. Attendees had the opportunity to admire the captivating short film posters on display and took photographs on the red carpet.
The competition which showcased the works of aspiring filmmakers across the country, presented 10 short films that explored various societal issues and themes.
Euvelyn Estellero, one of the student attendees, expressed her excitement about the event, saying, “This event was truly exciting and something I had been eagerly looking forward to. During this experience, I learned a great deal, and it further fueled my passion for filmmaking. Witnessing the dedication of every director, actor, and writer in bringing each scene to life was truly inspiring. It was heartwarming to see such opportunities available to me and my fellow communicators.”
The 6th Sine Kabataan Short Film Competition concluded with an awarding ceremony presided by Tirso Cruz III, the Chairman and CEO of the Film Development Council of the Philippines.
“Kung ang Ulan” bagged the Best Short Film Award, Mark Felix Ebreo was hailed as the Best Director, “Nalulumos Akong Papa sa Babaw” received the Jury Prize, and “All the Time” and “Kiang (Crutch)” earned the Special Mention awards.
As the final credits rolled, the BAComm students left the event with newfound knowledge and motivation, ready to embark on their own cinematic journeys in the world of filmmaking.
