Laguna University’s CPA Alumni: Leading the Way in the Future of Accounting

Becoming a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) is a remarkable accomplishment that opens doors to a fulfilling and influential career in the accounting field. For John Benvers A. Malabanan, affectionately known as JB, a proud graduate of Laguna University (LU), his educational journey at the university played a vital role in shaping his future as a prosperous accountant.

JB’s decision to pursue his college education at Laguna University was driven by practicality. Being the only public institution in the area offering a bachelor’s degree in accounting, LU became the perfect choice for JB, considering his limited financial resources. This decision showcased his determination and commitment to surmount obstacles in the pursuit of his dreams.

During his time at LU, JB’s college experience reached its peak when he assumed the presidency of the Junior Philippine Institute of Accountants (JPIA) organization for three years. Simultaneously, he also became a part of the University Student Council. Additionally, he graduated with a Master’s degree in Management majoring in Business Management at the University of the Philippines Los Baños. These leadership roles and educational attainment provided JB with invaluable opportunities to enhance his individual skills while refining his ability to lead and inspire others. The lessons learned during this period continue to shape his professional journey.

JB modestly refrains from listing his achievements throughout his career. Instead, he underscores the significance of focusing on the impact he has made in various areas. By prioritizing service to the government, supporting the youth, and contributing to his family’s well-being without relying on government assistance, JB has demonstrated a strong commitment to making a difference through his work.

JB’s message to future professionals from Laguna University and beyond is a powerful one. Rather than asking what the government can do for them, he encourages individuals to ask what they can do for the government and society as a whole. By adopting a proactive mindset and taking responsibility for their own success, individuals can manifest their aspirations. The key lies in self-help and uplifting those around them, leveraging their skills and talents to create positive change.

JB urges future professionals to push their boundaries, continuously striving for growth and self-improvement. By embracing challenges and seeking opportunities to broaden their horizons, individuals can unlock their true potential. Perseverance, determination, and a strong work ethic are highlighted as essential elements in achieving success, both personally and professionally.
