Expanding Accounting Knowledge: LU-JPIA Elevates BSA Students’ Skills with Quiz Bees, Seminar

Intending to engage Bachelor of Science in Accountancy (BSA) students in an academic endeavor and foster meaningful connection, the Laguna University – Junior Philippine Institute of Accountants (LU-JPIA) organized its two-day academic event featuring quiz competitions and a seminar, held at the Ramil L. Hernandez Bldg., March 20-21.

The first day of the event highlighted the individual and group quiz bees which brought together the top 15 qualifiers per category and the participating teams for the advanced showdown, battling for the highest spots while also strategizing for the contest’s twist.

“Yung multipliers na twist ng quiz bee ay nakakatakot kasi the flags are raised before you assess kung kaya mong sagutin yung question. Naging combination siya ng luck at knowledge, pero I believe naging maganda sya kase if you raised the highest multiplier, mas pressured ka na sagutin nang tama yung question to earn more points,” Maricar T. Del Rosario, a participant of the group quiz contest, said.

In addition, she also expressed how the quiz bee helped her form close ties with other LU-JPIAns, creating bonds while also learning.

Moving forward, the second day focused on the academic seminar titled “From Muggle to CPA: Transforming Hard Work to Financial Mastery,” having Mr. Joshua M. Bautista, CPA, an instructor at LU under the accountancy department, as the Guest Speaker.

Mr. Bautista’s talk featured his journey towards achieving the Certified Public Accountant license, “Do it scared… Develop the habit of letting small bad things happen. If you don’t, you’ll never find time for the life-changing big things.” he stated.

Moreover, he also emphasized the importance of creating friendships and connections in studying and reaching for the ultimate goal, “Surround yourself with amazing people. ‘Di ba sa Harry Potter, si Harry may kaibigan siya, si Hermione yung sobrang talino, at si Ron Weasley, siya naman yung laging kasama ni Harry sa kakulitan… Find people who will inspire you and motivate you.”

Afterward, the award ceremony for the winners of the individual and group quiz bees was administered. The BSA students who earned the top spots will have the chance of representing the school in outside academic competitions.

This year’s Harry Potter-inspired 9th Academic Event enfolded the theme, “AccouTHINK Chamber of Numbers: Unlocking the Magic Beyond Limits,” showcasing the developing accounting knowledge of the LU-JPIAns in their chosen field.
