ELITES, COEd’s student organization for English majors, officially launched two literacy initiatives, Project B.L.O.O.M and Project LexPlore, at the start of the first semester. Both aim to improve the reading and communication skills of the organization’s members in the span of one academic year.
Project B.L.O.O.M kicked off this month with a short story analysis of Carlos Bulosan’s “My Father Goes to Court.” Participants are given two weeks to reflect and share their insights, a format that will continue until the program concludes in May 2026.
Meanwhile, Project Lexplore commenced last August 19 with interactive vocabulary challenges inspired by literature and film. It was designed to help students expand their writing and speaking skills.
According to ELITES president Chelzy Delos Reyes, both projects aim to nurture students not just as learners but as future educators. “I want to see students bloom with meaningful learning at their own pace. Through these activities, we hope they learn to embrace literature, own their words, and thrive as future English teachers,” she shared.
Both projects have been met with enthusiasm by ELITES members as they engaged in the early discussions and activities seeking to promote critical reading. The organization emphasized that both projects are intended to build confidence and effective literacy among COEd’s students.
