The College of Computing Studies (CCS) at Laguna University held its annual Recognition Day on June 11, 2025, at the Ground Floor of the Athlete’s Village. With the theme “Unlocking the Digital Frontier: A Celebration of Achievements,” the event honored the academic performance, dedication, and resilience of CCS students.
The ceremony opened with an inspiring message from Dr. Marlon L. Atanacio, Vice President for Academic Affairs and former CCS Dean. Reflecting on his own journey in the academic field, Dr. Atanacio emphasized the value of dreams, hard work, and persistence. “Hindi masamang mangarap, ang masama, hindi ka nangarap,” he stated, encouraging students to pursue success through determination and faith.
Dr. Atanacio also read a message from University President Dr. Charlemagne G. Laviña, who highlighted the students’ contributions to shaping the digital future. “Unlocking the digital frontier is more than a theme—it’s a tribute to your boldness and belief in what’s possible,” the message read.
Keynote Speakers Highlight Struggles and Triumphs
Mr. Jeruz Claudel, a BSIT graduate, served as one of the keynote speakers. He shared a heartfelt account of his personal and academic challenges, underscoring the importance of community, perseverance, and character in achieving success. “Your skills may open doors, but your character will keep them open,” he said. He reminded students that the digital frontier is not only about technical expertise but also about integrity and compassion.
BSCS alumnus Mr. John Paul D. Pelojero, the second keynote speaker, urged students not to let fear hinder their progress. Sharing his own struggles with self-doubt and social anxiety, he emphasized the importance of continuous learning and resilience. He highlighted three key lessons: embracing lifelong learning, viewing failures as stepping stones, and using skills for meaningful contributions. “Don’t let fear stop you from trying,” he said.
The Laguna University Performing Arts Club (LUPAC) energized the crowd with a dynamic dance performance, followed by the awarding of student honors. The awards included:
- 12 Programming Language Proficiency Awards
- 4 Best Thesis and Capstone Project Awards
- 2 Outstanding On-the-Job Training Awards (for both BSIT and BSCS students)
- 48 Dean’s Listers, 3 Vice President’s Listers, and 3 President’s Listers
- Service Awards for exemplary contributions by student organizations and publications
The event was made possible through the efforts of the working committee led by overall chair Mr. James Aaron F. Guevarra, along with CCS faculty members who ensured the program’s success.
In his closing remarks, Mr. Numeriano Aguado delivered a thought-provoking message inspired by the biblical parable of the talents. He encouraged students to nurture and multiply their God-given gifts rather than letting them go to waste. He reminded everyone that success should be met with gratitude and a commitment to use their talents for a higher purpose.
The CCS Recognition Day 2025 was a celebration not only of academic excellence but also of the students’ strength, growth, and commitment to shaping the future of the digital world with purpose and integrity.
