Dean Rosalie D. Buban, Dr. Mayra Christina M. Ambrocio, Dr. Olga J. Domingo, and Dr. Rosemarie B. Alon-alon of the College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) presented virtually a research paper entitled “Digital Competence and Practices on Digital Citizenship of the College Freshmen at Laguna University” during the International Conference on Transnational Education and Media Studies in Srivaree Pavilion Hotel inside the campus of Huachiew Chalermprakiet University in Suvarnabhumi, Samut Prakan, Thailand on April 17-18, 2024. The theme of the said event was “Breaking Borders, Building Bridges: Exploring New Frontiers in Transnational Education and Media.”
The conference objectives were the following: (1) to promote global collaboration; (2) to innovate education through media; and (3) to address challenges and propose solutions.
Academic leaders from different Asian universities who discussed varied topics on language, disabilities, business, arts and culture, and education, attended the first day of the conference. Some Filipino government leaders were given awards for their distinguished contributions to public service and education. The keynote speaker was Atty. Gloria J. Victoria-Bañas, the President of City College of San Fernando-Pampanga, who talked about trends, challenges, and future directions of transnational education.
The second day was allotted for research presentations. The CAS researchers were the first presenters. Dr. Melanie V. Briones, Vice President for Academic Affairs and International Engagements of the City College of San Fernando, Pampanga, commended the paper. She appreciated the team’s effort. The CAS presentation paved the way for the faculty to become members of an internationally recognized organization.
The International Society of Teachers, Administrators and Researchers, Inc. (ISTAR) spearheaded the international event in coordination with the United Federation of Fil-Am Educators, School Press Advisers Movement, Inc. (SPAM), and Beyond Books Publication. It was established in 2019 by Dr. Rommel V. Tabula of the Philippines.
