BSTM Students Shine in “Flight Turismo 2025” Skills Competition

Talent, confidence, and creativity took center stage as Bachelor of Science in Tourism Management (BSTM) students of Laguna University showcased their skills during the first-ever Tourism Skills Competition held on February 5, 2025, at the Laguna Sports Complex Gymnasium. The event, themed LAYAG TURISMO 2025: “Learn and Activate: Yielding Applied Skills to Grow,” was organized by the Union of Laguna University Tourism Associates (ULUTA).

Despite prior postponements, the competition pushed through successfully, thanks to the leadership of ULUTA officers and the support of BSTM faculty members. In her opening remarks, Organization Adviser Ms. Jo MaryKryse Angeles expressed her excitement, saying, “Finally, we are here now despite the delays.”

Dr. Alex Macario C. Cecilio, Dean of the College of Business, Administration, and Accountancy, commended the organizers and participants, saying, “It is great that we hold this kind of event. I commend the BSTM faculty and ULUTA officers for making it happen.”

The competition featured four major categories: Quiz Bee, Tour Guiding, Flight Attendant Showmanship, and the highly anticipated Mr. and Ms. BSTM 2025 Pageant. These activities were designed to enhance students’ confidence, creativity, and preparedness for the tourism and service industry.

In line with the promotion of sustainable ecotourism, the Mr. and Ms. BSTM 2025 candidates wore creative outfits made from recycled materials, impressing the crowd with their poise and advocacy.

ULUTA President Mr. Emerson E. Eulin acknowledged the challenges in organizing the event after previous delays, noting the importance of persistence and teamwork. “Many students lost interest due to the postponements, but I’m grateful to our professors and officers for their support. The delay gave us more time to prepare and deliver a better experience for everyone,” he shared.

The event concluded with the awarding of winners from each category, recognizing outstanding performances from students across all year levels.
