Envisioning Education Beyond Today: LU-RDC and COED Empower Future Teachers Through AI Workshop

The Laguna University Research and Development Center (LU-RDC) and College of Education (COED) in collaboration with the ๐๐๐ข๐ง๐๐ฎ๐ซ๐ ๐ก ๐๐๐ฉ๐ข๐๐ซ ๐๐ง๐ข๐ฏ๐๐ซ๐ฌ๐ข๐ญ๐ฒ and ๐๐ข๐ญ๐ฒ ๐๐จ๐ฅ๐ฅ๐๐ ๐ ๐จ๐ ๐๐๐ฅ๐๐ฆ๐๐, successfully conducted the International Workshop on “Examining Teacher Education Students’ Perspectives on the Future of Education in the Context of AI” on July 21, 2026, at the Laguna University Audio-Visual Room (LU-AVR).
The workshop, held from 9:30 A.M. to 1:30 P.M., brought together selected Teacher Education students majoring in Science, Mathematics, English, and Bachelor of Elementary Education (BEED). The activity aimed to gather meaningful insights from future educators regarding their perceptions, expectations, and reflections on how Artificial Intelligence (AI) may influence the future of education.
The workshop was facilitated by Dr. Khristine Fabian, Dr. Maryann Lanuza, Dr. Peter Esperanza, and Dr. Marie Joy Q. Elomina, who guided participants through a series of reflective and collaborative activities designed to encourage critical thinking and imagination of future educational landscapes.
The activity centered on exploring personal and collective narratives about the question: โWhat does the future of education look like in the context of Artificial Intelligence, and where do future educators see themselves in this future?โ Participants were encouraged to reflect on emerging possibilities, challenges, and opportunities brought by AI in teaching and learning.
To facilitate meaningful reflection and organization of ideas, participants utilized the Ketso Board, an interactive tool that helped them visualize, categorize, and connect their thoughts. Students were grouped according to their respective majors, allowing them to discuss perspectives specific to their fields of specialization.
The workshop consisted of several reflection and sharing phases. During Part 1, participants engaged in a 10-minute group discussion where they exchanged initial thoughts, experiences, and expectations regarding the future of education. The discussions allowed students to recognize common ideas while also appreciating diverse perspectives from their peers.
In Part 2, groups presented and shared their collective responses, highlighting their views on how AI may transform educational practices, teacher responsibilities, and learner experiences. The sharing session provided an avenue for participants to communicate their insights and learn from the reflections of other disciplines.
For Part 3, participants were encouraged to โImagine a Better Versionโ of education through an individual reflection activity. This stage allowed students to express their personal visions of an ideal future learning environment and their envisioned roles as future educators in an AI-integrated educational setting. Afterwards, another group discussion was conducted at 12:43 P.M., where individual reflections were further explored and connected with the ideas generated by the groups.
The collected responses, reflections, and discussions from the participants will serve as valuable data for thematic analysis, providing deeper understanding of Teacher Education studentsโ perspectives on the future of education in relation to Artificial Intelligence. Through this research-oriented approach, the workshop contributes to identifying emerging themes, concerns, and aspirations of future educators as they prepare for an evolving educational landscape.
The activity emphasized the importance of balancing technological advancement with the human aspect of education. Participants highlighted the need for future teachers to remain adaptive, innovative, and committed to meaningful learning experiences while navigating the opportunities and challenges brought by AI.
The successful implementation of the international workshop reflects Laguna University’s commitment to promoting research-based conversations, global collaboration, and innovation in education. Through initiatives led by the LU-RDC and COED, future educators are empowered to actively participate in shaping the future of teaching and learning.
