LU psych juniors join 39th PAPJA, aim to futurescape psychology

Laguna University’s (LU) 3rd-year psychology students converged with fellow psychology students from other schools to learn, connect, and grow at the 39th Psychological Association of the Philippines – Junior Affiliates (PAPJA) Convention, with a theme “Futurescaping Psychology: Our Role in Attaining the Sustainable Development Goals.”

The 2-day annual gathering opened at the SMX MOA on April 27, which was primarily focused on discussions, quizzes, and other competitions designed to showcase the talents of psychology students.

Moreover, the first day featured inspiring messages from keynote speaker Ms. Jodi Sta. Maria, along with leaders in the field of psychology, Dr. Maria Guadalupe Salanga, Dr. John Manuel R. Kliatchko, and Dr. Peejay D. Bengwasan.

“For every student feeling the pressure of society’s ‘expiration dates’: Don’t rush your timeline. Late does not mean denied… Take the time to truly understand the beauty of what you study,” the actress, Ms. Jodi, reminded.

Furthermore, she emphasized how the world needs psychology students, who will be the front-liners of mental health, and they must rest and not quit studying their program.

Aside from the main stage sessions, students actively participated in various events such as the Interschool Psychology Quiz Competition, TranscenDANCE, PsyClips, Songwriting Competition, and Best Undergraduate Thesis presentations. The day ended with awarding ceremonies, celebrating the talent and excellence of participants.

Day 1 was more than just a series of activities—it was a meaningful start to a shared journey of learning and purpose.

Consequently, on the second day of the convention, the psychology students went on to their chosen workshop discussions where they could engage more deeply with different areas of psychology at De La Salle University Manila, April 28.

Following the workshop discussion that was centered on active learning and skill-building, interactive activities were conducted, which the students thoroughly enjoyed, while also giving them the chance to connect with students from other schools.

Both the morning and afternoon sessions encouraged students to participate, share ideas, and apply what they have learned. Guided by experts and supported by the DLSU Psychology Department and student volunteers, the environment was interactive and collaborative.

In addition to imparting knowledge, Day 2 assisted students in considering their future contributions to the profession, particularly in advancing mental health and wellbeing. It was a day of development, understanding, and significant learning, demonstrating that PAPJA 2026 is an experience that equips students to make a difference rather than merely an event.
