The Bachelor of Science in Computer Science (BSCS) program of Laguna University gathered its new students, transferees, and continuing students for the General Assembly and Reorientation 2025, spearheaded by the Laguna University–Computer Science Organization (LUCSO), on September 2, 2025, at the LU Covered Court. The event carried the theme “Git Started: Branch Out. Commit to Connections. Push Your Potential.”
Serving as the master of ceremony was Ms. Joville N. Avila, CCS faculty member. The program opened with an audiovisual presentation featuring the prayer, national anthem, and LU Hymn, setting a reflective and spirited tone for the day.
Ms. Joselle A. Banocnoc, Acting Dean of the College of Computing Studies (CCS), formally welcomed the students and introduced the faculty members of the college. She encouraged the attendees to actively engage in academic and extracurricular pursuits.
BSCS Program Coordinator Mr. Ronnie V. Edec followed with a message emphasizing the importance of participation and collaboration, especially for freshmen who are beginning their academic journey.
Vice President for Academic Affairs Dr. Marlon L. Atanacio, in his keynote message, challenged the students to “push their potential” and seize every learning opportunity. “Malaki ang nakikita kong potential para sa CS department,” he said, expressing confidence in the promising future of LU’s computer science students.
Newly appointed Prefect of the Student Discipline Office, Ms. Jovelle M. Reyes, reoriented the students on university policies and guidelines, reminding them of the importance of discipline and compliance. “Dapat hindi kayo matakot sa SDO,” she said, stressing that the office aims to guide students toward proper conduct within the university.
To recognize the organization’s leadership, LUCSO Adviser Mr. Joshua A. Dela Rueda introduced the officers for Academic Year 2025–2026. LUCSO Vice President for Operations John Raven Alpiedam also presented the organization’s lineup of activities for the year.
The event continued with the “90’s Rewind” block presentation competition, where students showcased their creativity and talent through singing, dancing, and acting. BSCS-DS 3A won first place, followed by BSCS-DS 2C and BSCS-DS 1A.
In the afternoon, the focus shifted to team-building activities that promoted camaraderie, communication, and leadership. Twenty teams competed in physical and mental challenges, with Team Express, Team Angular, and Team Revel securing first, second, and third places, respectively.
LUCSO President Andrea Liwanagan expressed gratitude for the successful event, acknowledging the teamwork and perseverance of the officers and volunteers. “Things weren’t always smooth; we encountered challenges and unexpected situations along the way,” she shared.
The 2025 General Assembly highlighted the CS community’s unity, creativity, and enthusiasm as they start another productive and inspiring academic year.
