LU-CCS Holds  Parents’ Consultation 2025

On September 8, 2025, the College of Computing Studies (CCS) at Laguna University conducted its annual Parents’ Consultation via Zoom Conference meeting. This event aimed to foster collaboration between the institution and the parents of its students.  Seven Hundred Eighty parents participated in the event which served as a map for the college’s upcoming activities this school year.

The program commenced with an opening remarks from Ms. Chrisna L. Fucio, Program Chair of the Bachelor of Science in Information Technology. She extended a warm welcome to the parents, expressing her gratitude for their presence and stating the role of parental involvement in student success. Ms. Fucio provided a small overview of the college’s objectives for student development, stating that the events are designed to equip students for their future careers.

Ms. Jovelle M. Reyes, Prefect of the Student Discipline Office, continued the program by elaborating on the university’s holistic mission that the institution’s ultimate goal is to produce graduates who are not only academically excellent but also well-mannered and equipped with the tools for long-term success. Ms. Reyes clarified that the university’s approach to discipline is not merely to punish but a process aimed at making students accountable, to have personal reflection, and growth. She reassured the parents that faculty members serve as mentors and guides and will remain committed to their students beyond the classroom.

The session progressed as Mr. Jayson B. Opeña, a CCS faculty member who also served as the meeting’s host, detailed the highlights of the program. His discussion emphasized the future plans and the upcoming activities of the department for the Academic Year 2025-2026. He explained that these activities are planned to provide students with practical experience and be competitive, to quote “may baon sila or may dalang bala” upon graduation. The College of Computing Studies manages the initiatives, which encompass a variety of academic, technical, and extracurricular activities.

Following this, the upcoming Arduino Workshop was presented by its chairman, Mr. James Aaron F. Guevarra. Scheduled for September 20, 2025, this event is the first major initiative for CS and IT students this school year, featuring sessions with invited engineers as resource persons. The students will receive a certificate, lunch, and an Arduino kit to take home, with the primary objective of developing technical skills applicable to both individual and group projects. This workshop is open to all CCS students and is required for all third-year students, as it can provide essential preparation for their thesis or capstone projects in the coming semester.

Mr. Kurt Robin A. San Jose, chairman of the Company Visit 2025, led a comprehensive discussion on the matter.  The event is set to occur in Subic, Zambales, on the dates of October 21-22, 2025. The upcoming event is set to engage first-year and second-year students, taking place in two distinct batches. This initiative aims to provide them with valuable exposure to practical applications at various locations, including the Law Enforcement Department, PAGASA, and the Vessel Traffic Management System.

A question and answer segment was effectively managed by some of the CCS faculty members, including Mr. Kurt Robin A. San Jose, Mr. James Aaron F. Guevarra, Ms. Joville N. Avila, Mr. Jayson B. Opeña, and the Acting Dean of the CCS, Ms. Joselle A. Banocnoc, who addressed parental inquiries with clarity. The event covered details regarding fee allocations for off-campus activities, along with other upcoming activities for the whole academic year.

The proceedings concluded with the election of parent representatives, facilitated by the CCS Recognized Student Organization Advisers, Ms. Kate Claudale A. Torrefiel and Mr. Joshua A. Dela Rueda. The election was intended to establish a streamlined communication pathway for upcoming events between parents and the CCS.

Following the election, Mr. Ronnie V. Edec, the  Program Coordinator of the Bachelor of Science in Computer Science, delivered the closing remarks, during which he expressed his gratitude to the participants and sincerely apologized for the technical difficulties experienced during the program.

Faculty members and parents alike deemed the event successful, despite minor technical issues. The consultation day informed and reinstated the trust of the parents, building a strong connection and establishing continuous collaboration with the department.
