NEWS | Comm-mates “big winners” at KOMKADA 2025

Bachelor of Arts in Communication students gathered at KOMKADA 2025, the department’s general assembly and re-orientation program, held last August 29, at the Laguna University New Covered Court. The event featured a theme inspired by the popular reality show called “Pinoy Big Brother.”

Hosted by Thyst Fabroa, JC Halayahay, and Keith Rivera, the event started with an energizing roll call from different blocks and year levels, proudly chanting their yells and keeping the spirits alive.

To officially start the program, Dr. Marlon Atanacio, the Vice President for Academic Affairs delivered an inspirational message, followed by a welcome remark from the OIC-Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences, Dr. Marie Joy Q. Elomina. In her message, she described the communication department as “beautiful, caring, and loving,” truly embodying the mantra, “Masaya sa Comm.”

To familiarize the students, specifically the freshmen, regarding the university policies, Ms. Rhia Obiniana, the Program Chair of BA Comm, conducted a re-echo discussion of the rules and regulations as well as the grading system. She then proceeded to facilitate the oath-taking ceremony of the Communication Circle (Comm Circle) officers for A.Y. 2025-2026, where they promised to fulfill the roles and responsibilities entrusted to them.

Moving forward, Comm Circle President Jewell Balderas discussed the plans, activities, and projects lined up for this school year. The presentation also covered initiatives that will foster camaraderie and showcase the talents and skills of  communication students.

The guest speaker, Ms. Coleen May Abante, a BA Comm alumna, shared her humble beginnings starting from being a student to a career woman. She recounted her experiences and served as an inspiration to many, proving that success is possible if we work hard enough for it.

For the afternoon session, the three committee heads, Donjie Limjoco of the student publication, Zandra Presto of Teleradyo, and KB Delizo of LU CommProd, presented an in-depth introduction of their committees, and laid out the expected roles and tasks the applicants should look forward to once they join these organizations.

To further inspire the students, several BA Comm alumni graced the event and shared their success stories. Among them were Mr. Juan Miguel Adao, Ms. Ramei Balajadia, and Mr. Dao Aguilar, who were then introduced as new faculty members of the Communication Department.

Sticking to the Pinoy Big Brother theme, students participated in “house tasks,” where they joined some interactive and connection-building activities led by the officers. The games included KOMnection Web, I-COMMent Mo ‘Yan!, and Comm Vibe With Me, and the winners are given prizes to celebrate their victories.

KOMKADA 2025 wrapped up with a closing remark from BA Comm faculty member, Dr. Olga Domingo, who expressed gratitude to everyone who participated in the event. The students were left feeling inspired by the stories, motivated to pursue their dreams, and ready to face the academic year with grit and passion.
