R. VALLEJO Passes DOST-SEI Scholarship Exam

Laguna University’s Rouin Abrejera Vallejo, a BS Computer Science student, passed the Department of Science and Technology – Science Education Institute (DOST-SEI) Junior Level Science Scholarship Examination held on July 28, 2024, at Laguna State Polytechnic University–San Pablo Campus.

Vallejo’s journey to success was marked by uncertainty and limited preparation. Initially believing his application had been rejected, he received his examination permit just five days before the exam date. With little time to study and facing unfamiliar topics—particularly in science—Vallejo pushed through and took the exam.

His efforts paid off when the official results were released on October 13, 2024. Vallejo was among the qualifiers under the DOST-SEI Junior Level Science Scholarship Program, implemented pursuant to Republic Act No. 10612 or the “Fast-Tracked S&T Scholarship Act of 2013.”

The scholarship program aims to strengthen the country’s science and technology workforce by providing support to students who intend to pursue teaching careers in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM).

In a statement, Vallejo shared study tips for future examinees: “Prepare thoroughly with reviews, take timed practice tests, and refresh your knowledge in Math and Science. Work on your English skills too, but don’t forget to rest—daydream, play games, listen to music. Managing stress is just as important.”

Vallejo’s achievement brings pride to the College of Computing Studies and serves as an inspiration to fellow students. His story reflects resilience, determination, and the power of believing in one’s potential, even in the face of last-minute challenges.
