BREAK THE PREVALENCE STOP THE VIOLENCE: Protecting Children, Creating a Safe Philippines 2024

Laguna University once again took part in celebrating the National Children’s Month at the Laguna Sports Complex Gymnasium last November 21, 2024. This year’s theme “BREAK THE PREVALENCE STOP THE VIOLENCE: Protecting Children, creating a Safe Philippines 2024” is a collaboration between the Department of Labor and Employment Provincial Office, Provincial Office (DOLE-PO), Public Employment Service Office of Laguna (PESO-Laguna), Laguna University Job Placement Office (LU-JPO), Laguna Industrial Peace Council Inc., and other organizations, both from the private and public sectors. The activity aimed to recognize the former child laborers of Laguna, promote children’s rights, and improve their quality of life.

The activity started with a prayer and was followed by the Philippine National Anthem. Mr. Rodson Del Mundo of PESO-Laguna delivered the opening message in behalf of the Governor Hon. Ramil L. Hernandez and Cong. Ruth Mariano Hernandez. Dr. Rosemarie D. Sabado, Laguna University Vice President for Academic Affairs, represented the OIC University President, Dr. Monette O Bato for the message of support. The Vice Chair for Labor of LIPCI, Mr. Manny Quizon also signified their support and was followed by the message of the DOLE RO IVA Assistant Regional Director Atty. Marion S. Sevilla.

The whole day activity included parlor games, sports, and fun festival. Beneficiaries of livelihood packages shared how their lives improved through the implementation of DOLE’s plans and programs in combating child labor. Another batch of livelihood packages were distributed to new beneficiaries.

The Laguna University and PHINMA Education System were also formally recognized as DOLE-accredited Job Placement Offices. Mr. Tony Angelo C. Alvaran (Director of PALO) and Dr. Rosemarie D. Sabado (LU VPAA) took the honor of receiving the certificate. Laguna University is the only JPO under the LCU category in the province of Laguna.

The College of Education students (BEED) did a great job in preparing the and designing the venue. They also assisted the committee during the event. They were able to share their talent and commitment as volunteers.

The activity ended with the awarding ceremony. The children and their parents were given food packs before leaving. Truly, this event was worth celebrating. Laguna University will continuously support the plans and programs of the Department of Labor and Employment.
