Taguig City University flexed its dominance after being hailed as the overall champion in the 12th Local Colleges and Universities Athletic Association (LCUAA) National Games 2023. This momentous event was hosted by Laguna University last October 8-13, 2023.
More than 2,000 athletes coming from 22 member-schools all over the Philippines competed in the said sports event and took pride to bring triumph and represent their schools in various sports competitions.
A total of 18 sports events were administered from ball games to pageantry including Athletics (Men and Women), Dancesport, Arnis (Men and Women), Karatedo (Men and Women), Sepak Takraw (Men), Taekwondo (Men and Women), Table Tennis (Men and Women), Chess (Men and Women), Badminton (Men and Women), Mobile Legends Bang Bang, Futsal (Men and Women), Volleyball (Men and Women), Swimming (Men and Women), and Basketball (Men and Women) with 3×3 and 5×5 categories, cheerdance and the Mr. and Ms. LCUAA 2023.
With their victory as overall champion and haul of 41 gold, 17 silver, and 12 bronze medals, Taguig City University took home the title of this year’s LCUAA National Games. Following the Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Muntinlupa, who earned the 2nd Runner-up position by securing 18 gold, 22 silver, and 21 bronze, was Gordon College, which claimed the 1st Runner-up position after amassing 37 gold, 24 silver, and 21 bronze.
They also ruled the Sepak Takraw after winning the championship against Initao College who landed in second place and Gordon College in third place. Hence, Taguig City University also proved its dominance in Taekwondo, Volleyball Men’s Category, Arnis, and Chess after pocketing the gold medal.
Taguig City University tied twice with Gordon College sharing the grand winner and championship title as they captured the gold medal in Dancesport and Badminton Competitions.
Meanwhile, Gordon College settled for the silver medal, followed by Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Muntinlupa with the bronze medal in the Arnis Competition. In Athletics, Tangub City Global College ran wild and landed on the first place spot, Gordon College and Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Muntinlupa in second and third place, respectively.
Taguig City University triumphed in the cheerdance competition, followed by City College of San Jose Del Monte in second place and Kolehiyo ng Lungsod ng Lipa in third. Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Muntinlupa, Mc Joseph Yuan P. San Jose and Taguig City University, Bailanie M. Bansawan shone and was crowned Mr. and Ms. LCUAA 2023, respectively. For the 1st Runner-Up, Christian L. Manalo of City College of Angeles and Alyssa Marie Fernandez of City College of Calamba got the place. The other winners include: John Erving Yerro of City College of Calamba and Gweneth Ezra D. Albite of Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng San Pablo (2nd Runner-Up); Paulo Castillo and Lilac Cabral of Gordon College (3rd Runner-Up) and John Steven T. Sengson of City College of San Fernando and Alexandra Nicole Pecundo of Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Muntinlupa (4th Runner-Up).
Kolehiyo ng Lungsod ng Lipa captured the gold medal in Karatedo along with Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Muntinlupa who went for silver medal and Initao College getting the bronze in the said competition.
In Tables Tennis, Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Pasig won first place, with Taguig City University in second place and Tangub City Global College in third place. In Mobile Legends Bang Bang, Pateros Technological College reigned over with Taguig City University placing second, and Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Pasig placing third.
For Futsal Women’s Category, Kolehiyo ng Lungsod ng Lipa bagged the first place, Taguig City University in second place and Gordon College in third place. Tangub City Global College, on the other hand, won in Volleyball Women’s Category, Gordon College in second place, and Taguig City University in third place. Gordon College victoriously sailed in Swimming as they got the first place, Kolehiyo ng Lungsod ng Lipa brought home the second place, and Laguna University snared the third place.
In Basketball Women’s Category, Taguig City University won the championship both in 3×3 and 5×5. Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Muntinlupa earned second place in both categories. Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Pasig was third place in 3×3 whereas Kolehiyo ng Lungsod ng Lipa settled for third place also in 5×5 category.
Meanwhile, in 3×3 Men’s Basketball, Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng San Pablo (PLSP) clinched their first gold medal, College City of El Salvador gained silver medal, and bronze medal for College City of Calapan. Colegio ng Lungsod ng Batangas also snatched their first gold medal in 5×5 category, with College City of El Salvador bagging the silver medal, and bronze for the Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Pasig.
Laguna University brought home 5 silver medals along with 7 bronze medals in Swimming, Badminton, and Table Tennis Sports Competitions.
LCUAA concluded last October 13, awarding all athletes with medals and trophies who excelled in their chosen sports. Taguig City University was hailed as overall champion harvesting 70 medals, Gordon College as 1st runner-up bagging 82 medals, and Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Muntinlupa in third place clinching 61 medals.
