Laguna University Multi-Purpose Gym | February 10–11, 2025 – The College of Computing Studies (CCS) made a strong impression at the 2025 Laguna University Sportsfest Table Tennis Singles competition as Michael Papa clinched bronze in the Men’s division, while Ryle Cagayat displayed resilience and fighting spirit in the Women’s category.
Papa delivered an outstanding performance in the men’s singles tournament, winning three consecutive matches with 3–0 sweeps before narrowly missing a spot in the finals. His campaign began with a commanding victory over CAS’s Ram Traballo, where he didn’t drop a single set. He then repeated this dominance against Mark Christian Manipol of COED, followed by another clean sweep of CBAA’s TJ Espiritu, with scores of 11–7, 11–5, and 11–6.
However, in a dramatic rematch against Traballo, Papa’s winning streak came to an end. After taking the first two sets, Traballo mounted a fierce comeback to win the next three, including a heart-pounding final set that ended 11–9. Despite the loss, Papa remained grateful and upbeat.
“Nag-enjoy naman ako sa lahat ng laro and gusto kong i-congrats lahat ng mga nanalo… lalo na sa men’s singles,” he said, commending fellow athletes and the organizing committee.
On the women’s side, Ryle Cagayat fought with determination against Maria Dianne Salipot of CAS. Though she fell in straight sets, 11–5, 11–6, 11–5, Cagayat showcased her competitive spirit and court presence throughout the match. Her footwork and effort were evident, despite being overpowered by the more experienced Salipot.
