The Laguna University Research and Development Center (RDC) successfully conducted a Seminar on Editing and Polishing Research Papers on March 6, 2026, at the LU20 Conference Room, allowing research editors to expand their skills in refining manuscripts for publication.
With the theme “From the First Draft: Elevating Research Papers Through Strategic Editing,” the seminar-workshop aimed to provide participants with practical knowledge and hands-on experience to improve the clarity, structure, and overall quality of research papers.
The session was facilitated by Dr. Marie Joy Q. Elomina, Research Director and Officer-in-Charge Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences. Drawing on her extensive experience in research and academic writing, she led the morning session by discussing common errors in research manuscripts. Her discussion highlighted issues in grammar, coherence, organization of ideas, citation practices, and adherence to academic writing standards.
Following the lecture, the seminar transitioned into a hands-on workshop where participants applied the editing techniques they had learned. The participants practiced identifying errors, restructuring sentences, and refining sections of a full research paper. This activity allowed participants to deepen their understanding of the editing process and receive feedback from their fellow editors.
The seminar concluded as the participants shared their key takeaways. Many expressed gratitude for the practical insights and techniques introduced during the workshop.
Through activities such as these, the RDC continues to empower editors with the tools and knowledge necessary to produce high-quality scholarly work that advances academic research and knowledge creation.
