Psych Department Greets New Faces at GA

The Department of Psychology welcomed its newly appointed Dean, Program Coordinators (PC), faculty members, and more than 300 freshmen students at the annual General Assembly with the theme, “Silakbo: A Journey Through the Mythic Psyche,” prepared by Asosasyon ng Sikolohiya sa Unibersidad ng Laguna (ASUL) to re-orient psychology students at Laguna Sports Complex Gymnasium, August 27.

Starting the program, Dr. Marie Joy Q. Elomina, Officer-in-Charge (OIC) Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences (CAS), delivered her welcoming remarks. She introduced the new PC of Bachelor of Arts in Psychology (BA Psych), Mr. John Mark Lafavilla, and Bachelor of Science in Psychology (BS Psych), Ms. Princess Ann B. Ongkiatco.

Following her, Ms. Ongkiatco guided the students by discussing the Program Goals, Objectives, and Outcomes. “There are many opportunities in Psychology,” she mentioned as she talked about psychology being flexible and that students will be able to experience clinical, industrial, and educational settings in their On-the-Job Training.

Furthermore, Mr. Lafavilla talked through the Retention Policy, wherein he told the students about the grades they must maintain and the exam they must pass to stay in the psychology program. He also added the core values a psychology student should possess, and he revealed the planned activities for the psychology program for the current academic year.

Moving forward, ASUL President, Vice President for Planning (VPP), and Vice President for Operations (VPO) discussed the Constitution and By-Laws that each psychology student must abide by. The discussion served to guide aspiring student leaders and organization members in the rules, regulations, and responsibilities as part of the association. Their Adviser, Ms. Jean Lianel P. Agawin, facilitated the oath-taking of ASUL and newly elected block officers.

In the afternoon session, ASUL prepared team-building activities for the freshmen and sophomores. They were challenged physically and mentally in game stations, while also giving psychological facts at every stop. As the event ended, ASUL President Althea Catapang gave her closing remarks.
