On October 28, 2025, the Laguna University Research and Development Center (RDC) successfully conducted a webinar on Integrating SDGs into University Research and Practice, with the theme: “From Mandate to Mainstream: Embedding the SDGs to Drive Transformative Research and Practice.”
This event underscores LU’s active adherence to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). It was a powerful step in aligning our academic endeavors with global imperatives for a better and sustainable future.
Dr. Marie Joy Q. Elomina, Director of RDC and OIC Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences, emphasized the significance of the activity:
“This event reflects our collective commitment to integrating the UN SDGs into Laguna University’s research agenda and daily practice, aligning our academic endeavors with global imperatives for a better and sustainable future.”
Following this, Ms. Ramei Balajadia, Research Coordinator (RMO, QMO, and CCC), stated the purpose of the activity. Meanwhile, Ms. Joselle Banocnoc, Dean of the College of Computing Studies, formally introduced the speaker.
The resource person, Mr. Mark Gabriel W. Aguilar, Associate Professor IV from Emilio Aguinaldo College, provided a clear roadmap on aligning university research with the SDGs, distinguishing between institutional and individual efforts. He emphasized that the SDGs is a blueprint where we should align our research work. Furthermore, Mr. Aguilar discussed the two phases of aligning university research with SDGs. According to him, the first phase mainly covers the institutional arm, while the second phase is more on individual work. His core message to the academic community: “Research should no longer be for the sake of compliance, but shall be a culture… it shall be our lifestyle.”
Dr. Norayda M. Dimaculangan, Student Research Coordinator, closed the event, noting that the information gained would guide the research endeavors of our teaching and non-teaching personnel, as well as students.
LU continues to prove its commitment to sustainable development and meaningful societal change through valuable activities like this.
