LU partners with UPLB

A Memorandum of Understanding Signing was held between the University of the Philippines – Los Baños (UPLB) and Laguna University (LU) at the Executive Conference Room, Office of the Chancellor, UPLB at 2:00PM.

On the basis of equity and reciprocity, the two higher education institutions concur to establish the following cooperative activities in the academic fields of interest, such as: a. exchange of faculty, students and researchers; b. conduct joint research and extension projects, talks, symposia, programs to build capacity, the sharing of academic information and materials, and the promotion of other forms of academic collaboration as mutually agreed.

Dr. Colegio S. Gascon, OIC University President of LU, said: “This is a memorable day for us. I am very grateful to Almighty God for providing LU another opportunity and so as with UPLB. We are very blessed to have UPLB as our partner in fulfilling our mission as an academic institution.”

Dr. Jose V. Camacho, Jr., Chancellor of UPLB, stressed in his speech that one of the university’s responsibilities is to assume a distinctive higher leadership role in the country’s growth of higher education. Chancy added that the Office for Institutional Development in Higher Education (OIDHE), through which the intent to connect, collaborate, and capacitate HEIs is institutionalized and prioritized. “We are always ready and willing to perform our duties in the service of the nation.” Furthermore, he stated his eagerness to learn “what more we can do together to future-proof the quality of higher education in the country.”

The agreement was forged by Chancellor Camacho with Prof. Agham C. Cuevas, Ph.D., Dean, College of Economics and Management while Dr. Gascon of LU did so with Dr. Marie Joy Q. Elomina, Research Director as witness. Dr. Monette O. Bato, Vice President for Planning and Finance, Dr. Rosemarie D. Sabado, OIC Vice President for Academic Affairs, and Engr. Paul Gerald R. Lasangre-Cruz, Assistant Vice President for Administration participated in this historic event. The UPLB team, on the other hand, was made up of Prof. Michelle Grace V. Paraso, Assistant to the Dean, College of Veterinary Medicine (representing: Prof. Maria Amelita C. Estacio, Dean, College of Veterinary Medicine), Dr. Fe M. Dela Cueva, Director, Institute of Plant Breeding, College of Agriculture and Food Science, Prof. Greg T. Pawilen, Ph.D., Director, OIDE and Assoc. Prof. Inero V. Ancho,Ph.D., Program Coordinator, Office for Institutional Development in Higher Education.

This linkage signals a more aggressive and resilient academic environment for LU.
