LU-BSA Representatives Participate in PICPA Laguna‘s 2025 Accounting Quiz Bee

Six students from the Bachelor of Science in Accountancy (BSA) represented Laguna University (LU) in the 2025 Inter-Collegiate Accounting Quiz Bee organized by the Philippine Institute of Certified Public Accountants (PICPA) Laguna Chapter, held at the University of Perpetual Help System Laguna, Biñan City, on January 25.

With the primary aim of fostering the academic growth and confidence of students as they prepare for the Licensure Examination for Certified Public Accountants (LECPA) in the future,  different colleges and universities across the province of Laguna participated the said quiz bee with Igi Christian Roxas and Ace John Tobias of BSA 2A, Bill John Ballesteros and Richard Pastorpide of BSA 3A, and Francis Emmanuel Delos Reyes and Phillip John Padua from BSA 4A representing LU along with their coach, BSA Program Chair, Ms. Judean Majella O. Monfero-Brosas, CPA, MBA, CTT.

During the competition proper, 1st and 2nd-year students competed in the Basic Level category, followed by the Intermediate Level for 2nd and 3rd-year, and Advanced Level, for the graduating students.

“Nakakakaba talaga, lalo na’t first time kong sumali sa isang quiz bee na may audience at kita ng lahat ang mga scores namin. Malaki ang pressure, pero nagpursige kami kasi alam namin na nag-prepare kami nang maayos,” Mr. Pastorpide, a participant of the Intermediate Level quiz bee, stated.

Despite not securing the top spots in their individual quiz bee categories, the LU-BSA representatives, especially Mr. Pastorpide, stayed grateful for the new experience and exposure that this event has given them.

“Although hindi kami pinalad makakuha ng place, nagpapasalamat pa rin kami sa experience kasi nakatulong ito para makita namin yung mga areas na kailangan pa naming pagtuunan ng pansin. Siguro hindi pa ngayon, pero baka sa susunod ay makakuha na tayo ng place sa Annual Accounting Quiz Bee ng PICPA Laguna at sa iba pang mga competitions na maaaring salihan ng BSA students,” he added.

Meanwhile, in an interview, Mr. Delos Reyes, a 4th-year student and one of the representatives of the institution for the Advanced Level covering all LECPA subjects, emphasized the value of the event.

“My quiz bee experience with PICPA Laguna is one for the books. Being given the chance to represent the BSA community at LU alongside some of the most dedicated students I know, and going head-to-head against some of the best BSA students from different esteemed universities in the province, is an honor and a pleasure for me,” he said.

Moreover, he also expressed his gratitude for the support of their Program Chair and the LALIHAN Federation and highlighted how quiz bees serve as an avenue for widening networks and connections with practicing professionals, and how it contributes to the students’ personal and professional growth.

At the award ceremony, all of the students and schools that joined the quiz bee received certificates and consolation prizes from PICPA Laguna and their sponsors.
