Laguna Youth Week 2023 Culminates in Convention of Youth Organizations

The Youth Development Affairs of Laguna (YDA) organized a convention of Youth Organizations in a spirited celebration of the Laguna Youth Week 2023. This event drew the participation of 400 enthusiastic attendees and commenced at 11:00 AM. Themed “Green Skills for Youth: Towards a Sustainable World,” the gathering took place at the Cultural Center of Laguna.

The Convention provided a platform for learning, networking, and recognition of the significant contributions made by diverse youth organizations. The YDA conferred certificates of accreditation as Youth Organizations to some of the Recognized Student Organizations (RSO) of Laguna University. Notable honorees included LU – College of Red Cross Youth Council (CRCYC), Computer Science Organization (CSO), LU – Junior Philippine Institute of Accountants (JPIA), LU- Accounting Information System Society (AISSoc), and LU – Young Entrepreneurs Society (YES).

Beyond the honors and recognition, the convention also focused into pertinent topic, notably volunteerism. Ms. Kathe Lyn Tamisin from the University of the Philippines’ Ugnayan ng Pahinungód led a thought-provoking discussion about the significance of volunteer work among the youth.

The presence of 2nd District Representative, Congresswoman Ruth M. Hernandez, graced the event. She highlighted the steadfast commitment of Laguna’s leadership to empower and support its youth.

A significant highlight of the gathering was the signing of a Letter of Agreement (LOA) between YDA and the Center for Youth Advocacy and Networking (CYAN). This LOA solidified their collaboration on the “Youth-led Network for the Right to Information” project, led by Project Officer for Organizing, Mr. Nestie Bryal Villaviray.

The convention culminated with closing remarks by Ms. Fatima Villaseñor, Head of YDA. Her words resonated with attendees, emphasizing the pivotal role of youth engagement in shaping a more sustainable and informed world.

The Convention of Youth Organizations not only celebrated youth’s vibrant spirit but also provided a significant platform to instill responsibility and sustainability among the future leaders of the province.  It stressed the potency of united youth efforts in pursuit of common goals.
