Representatives from the Bachelor of Science in Accountancy (BSA) of Laguna University secured the Overall 2nd Runner-Up title at the Philippine Institute of Certified Public Accountants – San Pablo City Chapter (PICPA-SPCC) 3rd Director’s Cup held on April 5 at Laguna State Polytechnic University – San Pablo City Campus (LSPU-SPCC).
Mr. Igi Christian Roxas, a second-year student, led the team after emerging as Champion in the Basic Level category, earning a spot in the PICPA – Southern Tagalog Regional Accounting Quiz Bowl.
“I wasn’t expecting to win. My only mindset was to do my best. Hearing my name and the name of the university announced as champion was one of the best feelings I’ve had. I can’t wait to represent not just my university, but also PICPA-San Pablo at the next level,” Roxas shared in an interview.
Also contributing to the team’s strong showing was Mr. Mark Richard Dogos, a fourth-year student, who placed 5th in the Advanced Level and received a scholarship grant from the Philippine Review Institute for Accountancy (PRIA) Inc.
“It feels fulfilling and makes me proud that Laguna University’s BSA Department is gradually establishing its name outside the university. As a member of the BSA community, I’m happy to be part of this milestone. Hopefully, we will claim the Overall Champion title in the next academic year,” said Dogos.
The LU team’s collaborative performance earned them the third-highest total score among participating universities across Laguna. LSPU-SPCC took home the Overall Champion title, while the Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng San Pablo was named 1st Runner-Up.
This marks the second consecutive top-three finish for Laguna University in PICPA-SPCC’s intercollegiate competitions, following their Overall 1st Runner-Up placement in the Bañagale Cup held in July 2024.
Mr. Roxas is set to represent the San Pablo Chapter in the upcoming regional level, competing against top performers from other Southern Luzon chapters.
