May 15, 2023 – The Guidance and Counselling Office (GCO) of Laguna University, in collaboration with the Public Employment Service Office (PESO)-Laguna, successfully organized a seminar on Career Exploration, Personality Development, and Employability Coaching. The event took place at the Laguna Sports Complex Gymnasium, aiming to equip students with valuable insights into career opportunities while helping them tap into their inner potential.
Dr. Gualolarina C. Fernandez, EdD, RGC, the head of the GCO, spearheaded the seminar, which witnessed the participation of third-year students from various colleges within the university. The attendees represented the College of Education (COEd), College of Business, Administration, and Accountancy (CBAA), College of Arts and Sciences (CAS), College of Computing Studies (CCS), and College of Engineering (COEng).
The highlight of the seminar was the presence of two keynote speakers, Ms. Ma Cathleen N. Martinez and Engr. Rodson G. Del Mundo. The speakers shed light on the diverse range of services offered by PESO, emphasizing the agency’s role in assisting future job seekers by providing employment opportunities. They also highlighted PESO’s commitment to supporting Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) through their Migration Offices.
The speakers further emphasized the significance of training centers affiliated with the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA). These centers provide comprehensive courses on massage therapy, hair cutting, baking, and other vocational skills that align with the demands of various industries. By gaining industry-specific knowledge and skills, participants can enhance their employability and increase their chances of securing desirable positions.
One of the primary themes explored during the seminar was the importance of life skills, attitude, and personality in the job-seeking process. The speakers stressed the need for self-realization as a foundation for building a secure career path. They also highlighted the vital role of life skills in personal and professional growth, emphasizing that possessing these skills significantly contributes to success. According to the speakers, attitude constitutes 70% of an individual’s overall success, while skills account for the remaining 30%. The audience was encouraged to prioritize tasks and responsibilities based on their level of importance, fostering work ethics that encompass integrity, commitment to quality, and building a reputable name.
The seminar concluded with a quote from the resource speaker, who encouraged the students to approach every situation as an opportunity with a positive mindset.
The students expressed their gratitude for the informative and inspiring talks, acknowledging the significant knowledge and skills they gained during the event. These insights will undoubtedly play a vital role in shaping their future careers.
