The Laguna Sports Complex Multi-Purpose Gymnasium was bustling with energy on the morning of August 29, 2024, as computer science students from all year levels gathered for the annual general assembly, themed “Innovate, Code, and Inspire: Your Journey Starts Here!” This yearly event, organized by the computer science department, brought together students and faculty for a day of celebration, collaboration, and inspiration.
The assembly opened with a warm welcome from Mr. Ronnie V. Edec, the computer science department’s program coordinator, who greeted the students, particularly the freshmen, and set the stage for what they could expect in the coming years. Dr. Marlon L. Atanacio, Dean of the College of Computing Studies, followed with an inspiring message, affirming the students as the “Perlas ng Silanganan” of Laguna University.
Ms. Chrisna L. Fucio, the Prefect of Student Discipline, addressed the students, emphasizing their responsibilities both on and off campus.
The much-anticipated CS Got Talent competition was prefaced by Mr. James Aaron F. Guevarra, who introduced the panel of judges: Ms. Lauradel V. Agra, Ms. Madeline Palero and Mr. Elson San Sebastian.
The talent competition showcased the diverse skills of the computer science students as they break the stereotype of being so-called computer geeks. The standout performance of the day came from CS 1B, who delivered a kinetic and artistic rendition of the Black Eyed Peas’ “Bebot,” winning them the top prize the other notable performances was showcased by the CCS students, LU-MABS, and CSO officers, with their adviser, Ms. Bea May Belarmino dance during the CSO officers’ intermission earning particular praise.
In the afternoon, the focus shifted to team-building activities, designed to foster camaraderie and leadership among the students as twenty teams participated, tackling various physical challenges, social, and mental skills.
The event concluded with an awards ceremony. CS 4A was recognized as the “Most Behaved Block,” while CS 1B, having already won the Got Talent competition, also claimed the “Early Bird” award. Faith Cruz and Daniel Harold Duran were named Ms. and Mr. Face Card, respectively. Team C# emerged as the overall champions of the team-building activities, with Erika Carpio being honored as the best player and Eunice Loren Cabalo as the best leader.
The general assembly succeeded in showcasing the students’ talents and reinforcing the spirit of collaboration, setting a positive tone for their journey at Laguna University.
