Laguna University, September 4, 2023 – The Capability Training Program for Secretaries and Treasurers of Recognized Student Organizations, organized by the Laguna University Central Student Council (LU-CSC), achieved significant success. The event drew a total of 58 participants, including the general secretary, deputy secretary, treasurer, and auditor representing 16 distinct student organizations at Laguna University. Held at the new building’s AVR room, this informative program played a role in grooming these students for leadership roles.
Commencing at approximately 8:00 AM, the program began with a prayer, followed by the national anthem and the Laguna University hymn, all led by LU-CSC officers. The event was hosted by Ms. Liezel Mercado, LU-CSC’s Treasurer, and Mr. Tryx Mercado, the Auditor of LU-CSC.
Ms. Eddanelle Occidental, Vice President for Planning of LU-CSC, delivered the opening remarks, providing an overview of the program’s objectives and the expected outcomes for participants. This was followed by inspiring messages from Mrs. Emelyn Napiza, Director of the Office of Student Affairs and Services, and Mrs. Florencia Miñas, Adviser of LU-CSC and Prefect of Student Activities, setting a motivational tone for the event.
The first speaker, Ms. Liezel Mercado, delved into crucial topics including the activity proposal form, financial statements, financial receipts, organization fund tracking, and submission procedures for the FS form. Mr. Tryx Mercado, the second speaker and Auditor of LU-CSC, comprehensively covered the roles and responsibilities of auditors, disbursement procedures, acknowledgment receipts, and organization fund tracking.
Ms. Patricia Palero, General Secretary of LU-CSC, assumed the role of the third speaker, stressing the significance of proper file naming for respective forms and elucidating the Activity Proposal Flow at Laguna University. Concluding the presentations, Mr. Mark Joseph Salazar, Deputy Secretary of LU-CSC, discussed the Venue Proposal Form and post-activity reports for events. The event culminated with a group photo session for all participants.
Leading a student organization demands unwavering dedication and committed efforts from its officers. The training program organized by LU-CSC proved highly beneficial for these student leaders, equipping them with the knowledge and skills necessary to fulfill their responsibilities within their respective organizations. As Donald McGannon aptly stated, “Leadership is an action, not a position.”
