Laguna University-BSIT Holds General Assembly 2024

The Bachelor of Science in Information Technology (BSIT) Department of Laguna University held its General Assembly on August 27, 2024, at the Laguna Athlete’s Village. With the theme “Likha ng Isip at Teknolohiya: Nagkakaisang Paglikha ng Kaalaman Tungo sa Pagsulong ng Agham Impormasyon,” the event marked both the celebration of “Buwan ng Wika” and the first major gathering of BSIT students for Academic Year 2024–2025.

The assembly aimed to orient students on university organizations, department plans, and updated university policies. Dr. Marlon L. Atanacio, Dean of the College of Computing Studies, and Ms. Chrisna L. Fucio, Prefect of Student Discipline, led the discussions on policy updates and institutional guidelines.

To open the event, the Laguna University Music and Band Society (LU-MABS) energized the crowd with live performances of popular Filipino songs such as “Tadhana,” “Sabihin,” “Buwan,” and “Hallelujah.” Their set aimed to promote appreciation of Original Pilipino Music (OPM) and foster a sense of unity among students.

A highlight of the program was the OPM-themed Hip-Hop Street Dance Competition, where participating groups showcased routines using Filipino music. BA 1D emerged as Champion, followed by SD 1E as 1st Runner-Up, and BA 1B as 2nd Runner-Up. Audience excitement peaked when students cosplayed as BINI members Mikha and Maloi during one performance.

Another crowd favorite was the “Copy Cut” segment, which provided comic relief through student re-enactments of viral internet videos. One memorable act was the impersonation of the viral “Doctor Jose Rizal” scene, drawing laughter from the entire audience.

The event also featured a promotional segment by BPI, introducing its new mobile application Vybe, designed to help students manage and save money using their smartphones.

In the afternoon, students participated in team-building activities aimed at promoting camaraderie and collaboration. Divided into twenty teams representing different countries, students designed team flags and created yells. They competed in a series of timed challenges across ten game stations. Team Japan accumulated the highest score, securing the overall championship.

The 2024 BSIT General Assembly successfully combined information dissemination, cultural celebration, and interactive activities. It provided students a renewed sense of community, school spirit, and motivation for the year ahead.
