Laguna University (LU) recently engaged in a significant benchmarking activity with the University of the Philippines Los Baños College of Human Ecology (UPLB CHE) to enhance its Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (DRRM) program.
The benchmarking meeting, held on January 14, 2025 aimed to learn from UPLB CHE’s best practices and integrate them into LU’s curriculum and research and extension initiatives.
A key highlight of the meeting was the presentation by Dr. Jennifer Marie S. Amparo, Dean of UPLB CHE, on the Institute for Resiliency and Environmental Sustainability (IRE). Dr. Amparo provided valuable insights into UPLB CHE’s innovative approaches to DRRM education, research, and community engagement.
Dr. Monette O. Bato, University President of LU, emphasized the importance of this collaboration in strengthening the university’s capacity to address the growing challenges of disasters in the province. “This partnership with UPLB CHE will provide invaluable knowledge and resources that will enable us to better prepare our institution including our students and contribute to more resilient communities,” Dr. Bato stated.
The meeting concluded with a recap of Asst. Prof. Ron Jay P. Dangcalan, Chair, CHE Strategic Partnerships Committee. He discussed the next steps in the collaboration, including potential areas for joint research projects, faculty and student exchanges, and community outreach programs.
This benchmarking activity underscores Laguna University’s commitment to academic excellence and its dedication to serving the needs of its community through relevant and impactful educational programs.
