Showcasing their expertise in taxation, Bachelor of Science in Accountancy (BSA) students from Laguna University (LU) secured the Overall 1st Runner-Up title at the 9th Bañagale Cup, held on July 21 at Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng San Pablo (PLSP).
The competition was organized by the Philippine Institute of Certified Public Accountants – San Pablo City Chapter (PICPA-SPCC) as part of the Accountancy Week Celebration 2024, themed “Values Above All.”
Participants from multiple institutions across Laguna joined the event, including Card MRI Development Institute, Laguna College, San Pablo Colleges, PLSP, and three campuses of Laguna State Polytechnic University (Los Baños, San Pablo City, and Sta. Cruz).
The quiz bee was divided into two categories. Representing LU in Category 1: Income Taxation were Mr. Bill John S. Ballesteros, Ms. Maricar T. Del Rosario, Ms. Angela Mae M. Dimacali, and Ms. Ma. Lourdes E. Valenciano. In Category 2: Business and Transfer Tax, LU was represented by Mr. Mark Richard A. Dogos, Mr. Francis Emmanuel D. Delos Reyes, Ms. Shane Marie S. Flores, and Ms. Xylene T. While no individual awards were secured, the team’s combined scores across both categories earned Laguna University the 1st Runner-Up position. The group was mentored by Program Coordinator Ms. Marian G. Magcalas, CPA, MBA.
“This achievement brought us an overwhelming feeling of joy. To solidify LU’s pride in academic competitions such as this quiz bee is a huge honor,” said participant Ms. Valenciano.
LSPU – San Pablo City was declared Overall Champion, while LSPU – Los Baños took the 2nd Runner-Up spot.
