The Asosasyon ng Sikolohista sa Unibersidad ng Laguna (ASUL) conducted its first-ever research seminar for Junior Psychology students on September 30 at the Laguna University Covered Court.
The event aimed to prepare Psychology students for their upcoming research work by equipping them with knowledge and strategies to overcome challenges in the research process.
BA Psychology Program Coordinator John Mark Lafavilla opened the seminar, emphasizing that research is a required outcome under CHED standards and stressing its role in preparing students to deliver meaningful services in the future.
Vice President for Academic Affairs Dr. Marlon Atanacio followed with a message on the relevance of research in daily life, while University President Dr. Charlemagne Laviña encouraged students to view research as a privilege that can drive community progress and societal development.
Keynote speaker Dr. Marie Joy Q. Elomina, Director of the LU Research and Development Center and OIC Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences, discussed “Beyond the Anxiety: Mastering Your Mindset Towards Research.” She addressed students’ fears and misconceptions about research and presented strategies to build confidence in the process.
Dr. Elomina also covered the essential components of research writing, including introductions, research design, ethics, and results presentation. She reminded students with a quote from Daniel Boorstin: “The greatest obstacle to discovery is not ignorance—it is the illusion of knowledge.”
