With the goal of nurturing the hidden talents of the Bachelor of Science in Accountancy (BSA) students, the Laguna University – Junior Philippine Institute of Accountants (LU-JPIA) organized its 9th Non-Academic Event, at the Laguna Sports Complex, Multi-Purpose Gymnasium, December 19.
Embracing a Bridgerton-inspired theme, “Delving into the Ton: Finding the Diamonds of the Season,” the event provided the LU-JPIAns a break from academics to celebrate creativity, elegance, and camaraderie.
To start with the event, Dr. Alex Macario C. Cecilio, Dean of the College of Business, Administration, and Accountancy, emphasized in his opening remarks that the goal of a BSA student is to become a Certified Public Accountant (CPA).
“As BSA students, your goal is to be a CPA. Recently, may dalawa tayong passers, mga CPAs na sila. Sa susunod, by God’s grace, mas marami pang pumasa at maging CPA kayong lahat,” Dr. Cecilio claimed.
Moreover, Ms. Judean Majella O. Monfero-Brosas, LU-JPIA Adviser and BSA Program Coordinator, gave her Inspirational Message, sharing her tips towards achieving the CPA title.
“May tatlong bagay lang tayong dapat tandaan para maging CPA. Hard work, perseverance, and to always keep going,” Ms. Monfero-Brosas stated.
Following this, the program activities, LU-JPIA’s Got Talent, Mr. & Ms. LU-JPIA 2024, and JPIAns’ O Clock, commenced where the contestants, candidates, and the BSA students performed and gave their best in showcasing their wit, skills, and unity.
This year’s non-academic day highlighted the performances of the candidates for the pageant, bringing their talent in dancing, singing, and acting, while also gracing the stage with their Bridgerton-inspired outfits.
In the award ceremony, the four corners of the venue were filled by the cheers and claps of the audience as the diamonds of season have been found and their journey as the new faces of LU-JPIA and the entire BSA community began.
“There were a lot of setbacks, failed requests, and last-minute changes, but I think those are the things that make it more special to me. We wouldn’t be able to pull this off without our cooperation and constant encouragement to each other. And for that, I’m extremely grateful to have such an amazing support system,” Ms. Jhanna Mae D. Doria, LU-JPIA Vice President for Non-Academics, shared in an interview.
In addition, she said that the preparation for this year’s non-academic event is a remarkable journey as this also marked her last year as a college student.
“Preparing for this event wasn’t an easy one, but it was one of the most precious moments I’ll carry with me because I saw how each LU-JPIA officer delivered their responsibilities with dedication and passion and how all of the BSA students enjoyed the activities without thinking of their academic responsibilities,” she added.
