The 16th Computer Science General Assembly took place on October 5, 2023, from 7:30 AM to 4:30 PM at the Laguna Sports Complex Gymnasium. It was a day brimming with innovation, collaboration, and celebration within the Computer Science Department. Themed “Unleashing the Power of Technology through CS Innovation and Collaboration,” the event brought together students and faculty to foster camaraderie.
The event began with the registration of participants. The official program commenced with a prayer, singing of the national anthem and Laguna University hymn. Mr. Ronnie V. Edec, the Computer Science Program Chair welcomed everyone with his opening remarks. This was followed by an inspirational message given by the Dean of College of Computing Studies (CCS), Mr. Marlon L. Atanacio, who encouraged everyone to embrace the computer science program. Rodgil Mark Alcantara, LUCSO 3rd year representative and Chester Miranda, LUCSO VP for operations, served as masters of ceremony.
One of the most eagerly anticipated part during the morning session was the “Mr. & Ms. Computer Science 2023” competition. Ms. Bea May M. Belarmino, adviser of Laguna Univeristy Computer Science Organization (LUCSO) initiated the pageant by introducing the panel of judges, followed by the introduction of the contestants. The panel of judges were Ms. Meca Ibarrientos, CCS faculty; Ms.Caroline Yosolon–Matienzo, Laguna University nurse; and Mr. Elson San Sebastian, Administrative Aide III.
The spotlight then shifted to “CS Got Talent,” where each block presented a performance alongside their pageant representatives. Following this, fourth-year students serenaded the faculty members as an appreciation of their dedication to teaching and in celebration of World Teacher’s Day. The event continued with “Mr. & Ms. Computer Science 2023” Q&A session, wherein each contestant answered the questions thoroughly. The morning session concluded with awarding of certificates to the panel of judges.
In the afternoon session, Camille Rosario, Editor – In – Chief of Digital Digest announced that the publication is open for recruitment of new members. This was followed by the awarding of Mr. and Ms. Computer Science pageant winners, including Rodem Estrellado from 1A for Mr Q and A and Best in Talent (Male), Joyce Ann Cuala from 2A for Best in Talent (Female), Ian Kurt Pasuquin from 3A and Khrell Matienzo from 1A for People’s Choice Award, Mary Grace Dela Marquez from 4B as Ms. Computer Science 2nd runner up, Merry Rose Estrella from 1B as Ms. Computer Science 1st runner up and Photogenic award (Female), Karylle Narito from 1C as Ms. Computer Science 2023 and Ms Q and A award (Female), Aubrex Subia from 4B as Mr. Computer Science 2nd runner up, Vincent Manglona from 1C as Mr. Computer Science 1st runner up and Brixter Ruiz from 4B as Mr. Computer Science 2023 and Photogenic award (Male). The CS got Talent winner was also recognized, with the second-year students from block A emerge as the champion.
A team-building activity followed, featuring eight stations with challenges that each group had to conquer. The challenges included Seek and Speak, Charades, Guess the song, Q and A, Longest property, Doctor Quack, Pass the cup and Calamansi Relay.These activities promoted cooperation and teamwork among the participants.
The event concluded with the announcement of winners for the Team Building Activity and closing remarks given by the current LUCSO president, Erika B. Carpio, who expressed her gratitude to everyone for their cooperation and active participation. A total of two hundred sixty -three computer science students attended the general assembly.
