In a collaborative effort between the Laguna University Computer Science Department and the Community Extension Services Unit (CESU), a training program which centered on entrepreneurship and livelihood was conducted on September 27, 2023. The event, hosted by Ms. Patricia Toledo, a faculty member of the Computer Science Department, was held at the AVR, RLH Building from 9 a.m. to 12 noon.
A total of 99 participants attended the program, including fourth-year Computer Science students, Bachelor of Arts in Communication students, and members of the local community. The seminar started with an opening prayer, followed by the singing of the National Anthem and the LU Hymn.
Mr. Tony Alvaran, Director, Placement, Alumni and Linkages Office, delivered the opening remarks. Mr. Alvaran emphasized the importance of employment opportunities for Laguna University students upon graduation and their potential as future entrepreneurs. Subsequently, Mr. Joseph Paul Berba, Youth Development Assistant II of the Youth Development Affairs Office, talked about youth empowerment and various community involvement programs.
Mr. Jerwin Anas, CBAA Instructor III at Laguna University, engaged the participants with insights on marketing strategies for small business ventures, emphasizing effective communication skills and decision-making. Representatives from the Special Livelihood Office of the Provincial Capitol of Laguna, namely Sofia Burbos, Romeoleeto Corpuz, and Fe Bondoc, conducted a demonstration on the formulation of dishwashing liquid as a profitable startup venture for fresh graduates.
The seminar concluded with closing remarks from Mr. Marlon Atanacio, the Dean of the College of Computing Studies, who expressed appreciation for student participation and celebrated the event’s resounding success.
In the spirit of H. Jackson Brown Jr.’s words, “The best preparation for tomorrow is doing your best today.”
