CCS Summit 2025 Equips Students to Bridge the Digital Divide

The College of Computing Studies (CCS) of Laguna University successfully held its annual CCS Summit on April 7–8 and April 14–15, 2025, at Word of Life in Calauan, Laguna. With the theme “Bridging the Digital Divide: Fostering Inclusivity and Innovation in the Industry,” the summit provided CCS students with meaningful insights from experts in the field of information technology.

In his opening remarks, Dr. Marlon L. Atanacio, CCS Dean and Assistant Vice President for Academic Affairs, emphasized the summit’s relevance in equipping students with necessary skills and competencies. “This is our third year of conducting CCS Summit. This is part of our plans and programs para madala namin kung ano yung needed na skills and competence na nilalaan namin para sa inyo,” he stated.

Dr. Monette O. Bato, OIC-Vice President for Academic Affairs and Vice President for Planning and Finance, emphasized the importance of addressing the digital divide in today’s rapidly advancing world. She called on students to become agents of inclusivity and innovation in their future professions.

Laguna University President Dr. Charlemagne G. Laviña addressed the Batch 2 participants, stressing that the summit is a commitment to ensure no one is left behind in the era of digital transformation. He emphasized that every student must be empowered to lead in a technology-driven society.

Guest Speakers Share Industry Knowledge

On April 7, guest speaker Mr. Paulo Lazaro, Project Manager and PMO Lead at Indra Philippines, discussed the field of IT consulting and career building. He shared that building trust and faith in the process, especially in God, played a vital role in his professional growth.

On April 8, Mr. Michael A. Reyes, a specialist from the Information Systems unit at the International Rice Research Institute (IRRI), highlighted the impact of data in transforming agriculture and uplifting marginalized communities. He encouraged CCS students to use their technical skills for the greater good, particularly in underserved sectors.

The second batch of participants gathered on April 14, where Mr. Edward Humphrey C. Isles, AWS Technical Account Manager at EcloudValley, introduced cloud computing concepts using Amazon Web Services. He demonstrated tools such as auto-scaling, monitoring, and automation to help students understand scalable IT infrastructure.

The summit concluded on April 15 with a session from Mr. Renz Carlo P. Dumalag, Software Development Leader at Interactive Partners. He emphasized the importance of task decomposition, rule implementation, and health maintenance for career growth. He also reminded students that knowing one’s limitations and seeking help are part of continuous learning.

Closing and Reflections

Ms. Patrecia Toledo, Chairperson of the CCS Summit 2025, delivered the closing remarks. She expressed gratitude to university officials, faculty, and students for their participation and support in the summit’s success.

The CCS Summit 2025 served as a platform for students to gain valuable knowledge and develop industry-ready skills, reinforcing their role as future innovators and leaders in bridging the digital divide.
