On April 24, 2023, Audio-Visual Room of the RLH Building at Laguna University, the College of Business Administration and Accountancy (CBAA), together with the LU Community Extension Service Unit (CESU), conducted a Livelihood Training to help alleviate the livelihood status of the out-of-school youth and “Kababaihans” of the university’s adopted community – Brgy. Bubukal. The CESU Director, the CBAA Dean, faculty members, and students were also present at the event. Registration started at 7:40 AM and was followed by an Opening Prayer, singing of the National Anthem, and Laguna University Hymn.
Dr. Alex Macario C. Cecilio, Dean of the CBAA, delivered the opening remarks in which he outlined the objectives of the training and acknowledged everyone who supported the event. Ms. Fatima Eleonor Villasenor, YDA’s Youth Development Officer IV, highlighted youth empowerment and encouraged those who are not in school to avoid low times and emotions of demotivation. She further stated that YDA embodies the youth’s every desire, hope, and dream through volunteerism, advocacy, and activities. She pointed out that via active involvement, youth are empowered to play an essential role in their growth as well as the development of the community.
Following the talk on youth empowerment, representatives from the Special Livelihood Office demonstrated how to make and prepare dishwashing liquid and fabric conditioner. Through training, the participants acquired knowledge and access to business opportunities.
Mr. Jaime A. Perfecto Jr., CPA, the OIC Program Chair of the BSA/BSAIS Department, served as the final resource person. He provided insights on bookkeeping for small businesses, emphasizing the effective management of revenue and expenditures. This knowledge will enable entrepreneurs to review resources and costs efficiently, manage cash flow, and maintain a healthy business.
After the informative sessions, certificates were presented to the distinguished resource persons. Additionally, participants received Dishwashing Liquid kits, generously donated by college alumni. The 17-liter kits were provided to the participants free of charge, serving as a starting point for their small businesses. It is hoped that they will be able to implement the skills acquired during the training to create successful ventures.
Ms. Joselle A. Banocnoc, Director of CESU, concluded the program by expressing gratitude to everyone who participated in the activity and dedicated their valuable time to make it possible. She added that there are numerous livelihood trainings to look forward to.
