Laguna University’s IT Society (ITS_LU) and the Office of the Student of Prefect Activities, led by Florencia S. Minas, have finalized three competing parties for the upcoming academic year. The Tibay party, Likha party, and Label party have put forth their candidates for the new set of ITS_LU officers.
Outgoing officers, including President Meca Ibarrientos, Vice President for Planning Mia Suiza, Vice President for Operation Jezelle Edrinal, Deputy Secretary Patrecia Toledo, General Secretary Eden Bergonio, Auditor Jhondarll Espiritu, and 4th Year Representative Rica Mae Escobel, are concluding their academic journeys and making way for the new leadership.
Treasurer Aubrey Shae Pimentel is running as President for the Likha Party, while Public Relations Officer Royel Salamatin is running as President for the Tibay Party, 2nd Year Representative Mikee De Leon is vying for the Vice President for Operation position under the Label Party and Maureen Angeline Regala, the 3rd Year Representative, is running for the General Secretary position under the Tibay Party.
To inform students about their choices, campaign materials have been posted on the Facebook page of the BSIT Department at Laguna University. This year’s campaigning has been intense, with candidates showcasing their wit and skills through interviews and online videos.
The voting process took place on May 2, 2023. From the 619 qualified voters, 468 or 75.61% casted their votes. The long-awaited results were announced on May 3, 2023. Aubrey Shae Pimentel, the newly elected President and head of the Likha Partylist, expressed her commitment to serve the students’ needs and goals, saying, “Kami ang magiging boses at katawan ninyo sa pagtaguyod ng inyong mga pangangailangan at layunin” (We will be your voice and advocates in pursuing your needs and goals). Pimentel secured a total of 204 votes, surpassing her closest rival, Royel Salamatin, President of the Tibay Party, who received 174 votes. However, Pimentel fell behind Mr. Glenn Mora, President of the Label Party, who garnered 79 votes.
For the position of Vice President for Operations, Tibay Party’s Jamima Bandillo emerged victorious with 270 votes, while Mikee De Leon won the election for Vice President for Planning. Maureen Angeline Regala, the General Secretary of the Tibay Party, received 271 votes, while Terilyn Gonzaga, Deputy Secretary of the Label Party, received 225 votes.
Shane Sabio from the Tibay Party was elected as Treasurer with 240 votes, and Rodel Gomez of the Label Party secured the position of Auditor with 193 votes. Joseph Emmanuel Selerio of the Tibay Party won the seat of Public Relations Officer with 222 votes.
Finally, second-year student Mae Marie Chan Lim garnered the highest number of votes, 286, earning her the position of Representative. Nhiel Andrei Marquez received 251 votes as the 3rd Year Representative, while Joed Malderama secured 270 votes as the 4th Year Representative.
With the newly elected officers leading ITS_LU, the IT students at Laguna University are now poised for a dynamic and eventful school year ahead.
