On February 28, 2023, an initial meeting between Laguna University (LU) and Bamboo Professionals, Inc. (BPI) was conducted at LU Administration Building. The discussion centered on the assistance that could be provided by BPI to LU to establish a curricular program on bamboo, bambusetum with bamboo park, formulation of a bamboo research program and creation of a faculty and staff development program. This new endeavor signifies the commitment of Laguna University to pursue solutions to international environmental concerns such as climate change, water and food crises, biodiversity loss and decline in natural resources.
The meeting was participated by the BPI Chairman and former DOST Undersecretary for Regional Operations Dr. Florentino O. Tesoro, together with Dr. Ramon Razal, whose specialization includes wood chemistry and non-timber forest products and other BPI officers – Forester Robert N. Natividad and Mr. Angelito B. Exconde. On the other hand, LU was represented by the OIC-President and Vice President for Administration Dr. Colegio S. Gascon, together with Dr. Monette O. Bato, the Vice President for Planning and Finance, Dr. Marie Joy Q. Elomina, the Research Director and Ms. Jenneth R. Mondez, the Director of Corporate Communication Center. Dr. Rosemarie D. Sabado, the Vice President for Academic Affairs virtually witnessed the meeting since she was in Thailand for an international partnership with Nakhon Pathom Rajabhat University.
The initial talks led to the creation of a draft Memorandum of Agreement leading to a possible collaboration between the two parties towards a green environment and progressive society.
