Laguna University celebrated its 17th Founding Anniversary with the theme, “From Vision to Reality: LU Intensifying Strength @ 17,” on February 14-15, 2023 at the Laguna Sports Complex, Bubukal Sta. Cruz, Laguna.
As a prelude to the main event, a Blood Letting Activity organized by the Community Extension Service Unit and the Medical and Dental Clinic of LU in collaboration with the Philippine Red Cross-Laguna, was conducted on February 13, 2023. One hundred thirty-one (131) bags of blood were donated to PNRC-Laguna.
The celebration of the 17th Foundation Anniversary commenced with a “Color Run” at 5:00 o’clock in the morning of Valentine’s day. Nearly 1000 runners joined the 3 km and 5 km Color Run organized by the LU Mechanical Engineering Society (LUMES) and the Central Student Council (CSC).
Engr. Paul Gerard R. Lasangre-Cruz, Assistant Vice President for Administration and the Chair of the 17th Founding Anniversary Committee; Dr. Rosemarie D. Sabado, OIC-Vice President for Academic Affairs; Dr. Monette O. Bato, Vice President for Planning and Finance and Ms. Emelyn U. Napiza, Director, Office of Student Affairs and Services, led the Ribbon Cutting which signaled the opening of the eleven (11) booths prepared by the Recognized Student Organizations (RSO).
The “LU Got Talent” which showcased the LUnians artistry in various fields, was held in the afternoon of February 14, with Hon. Karen C. Agapay, Vice Governor of Laguna, as Guest of Honor.
Online games (Mobile Legends and Call of Duty Mobile) and the search for Mr. and Ms. Laguna University 2023 were simultaneously held in the morning of February 15.
The event was made more special with the presence of Hon. Cong. Ruth M. Hernandez, Representative of the Second District of Laguna, who delivered her Foundation Day Message. Cong. Hernandez, also spoke on behalf of Hon. Ramil L. Hernandez, Governor of Laguna and Interim President of Laguna University.
The 2-day celebration culminated with a bang by bringing together all bands in Laguna University for the Battle of the Bands 2023 (BOTB). Organized by the Central Student Council, the BOTB featured 10 promising bands which vied for the title BOTB 2023 Champion.
The guest band, sponsored by Gov. Ramil L. Hernandez, “Bandang Grace” completed the night with its rendition of Queen’s Bohemian Rapsody and a non-stop music of famous pinoy bands.
The activities conducted in celebration of LU’s 17th year of existence were anchored on its vision to be a socially responsive educational institution of choice, providing holistically developed individuals in the Asia Pacific Region.
