The Research & Development Center held the 2nd Research Expo with the theme “Innovation @ Work” on February 13-14, 2020 at the Athletes’ Village, Laguna Sports Complex, Santa Cruz, Laguna. The said activity aimed to showcase the innovative studies, inventions, marketability, and development of students in their respective fields.

The exhibit headed by Dr. Marie Joy Q. Elomina, was divided into two categories: the product development category consisting of the College of Engineering, Department of Accountancy, Department of Entrepreneurship, Department of Information Technology and Department of Computer Science, and the educational and social sciences category consisting of the College of Education, College of Health Sciences, Department of Communication, and Department of Tourism.

The invited judges were Ms. Yasele Irene Angela M. Yambao, the Director of Student Affairs, UP Open University, Dr. Colegio S. Gascon, Vice President for Academic Affairs and Dr. Gualolarina M. Fernandez, RGC, Guidance Counselor.

Students from various programs gathered around the exhibit area to witness the different studies and incredible inventions displayed in every booth. The Communication department designed their booth as a sophisticated mini theater room. The Computer Science and Information Technology departments unveiled their student-developed programs and applications while the College of Engineering impressed everyone with various machines fabricated by their students.

Students who visited the exhibit were very vocal of their admiration towards the researches and inventions displayed. Even Atty. Dulce H. Rebanal, the Provincial Administrator and Dr. Monette O. The College of Health Care Sciences bagged the Best Research Exhibit for the Educational and Social Sciences category. Othe winners are the College of Education as the 2nd runner-up, the Department of Communication and Department of Tourism as the 2nd runner-up and 3rd runner-up, respectively.

Dr. Elomina shared that she hopes the students will realize that doing research is fun and exciting. Rather than being burdened and being scared of doing their research, she aspires that students will find genuine joy and gain meaningful wisdom throughout the journey of their research writing process in Laguna University.

With the success of this Research Expo, everyone received a renewed love for research and development. Congratulations to all the winners, as well as to the Research & Development Center along with its slew of competent Research Coordinators and Exhibit Committees for a successful event. Needless to say, its only right that we anticipate the next research exhibit!
