LAGUNA UNIVERSITY, in its continual quest for quality and excellence in higher education, submits itself to program-level accreditation of its seven programs, by the Association of Local Colleges And Universities Commission On Accreditation (ALCUCOA), last December 9-11, 2019. These are: Bachelor of Elementary Education (BEED), Bachelor of Secondary Education major in English, BS Secondary Education major in Mathematics for LEVEL I, BS Information Technology (BSIT) and Bachelor of Arts in Communication Arts for LEVEL I; BS Entrepreneurship and BS Accountancy, for Candidate Status; total of seven (7) programs, the survey visit formally kicked off with an opening program held at the Laguna Athlete’s Village, 9:00 a.m.
Leading the group of seasoned accreditors is Dr. Elizabeth A. Montero, ALCUCOA Vice President and Supervising Accreditor, Program Accreditor of AB Communication and President of Urdaneta City University. She brought with her top-caliber evaluators who hold major positions in their respective corporate and academic institutions. They are Dr. Analiza Arcega, President of Pateros Technological College, Dr. Dalisay G. Brawner, Program Accreditor of BSE English and Executive Director of the Knowledge Management Center, University of Makati, and Dr. Rebecca Tolentino, Program Program Accreditor (BSE Mathematics) Acting Vice President for Academic Affairs, Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila. Also with them are: Prof. Jennifer Jupson- Laluna, Accreditor (Library Area) and OIC of UMAK Library Learning Commons; Dr. Elmer Pineda, Program Accreditor for BSIT and Associate Professor-Lecturer at Far Eastern University-Makati and various universities; Prof. Ma. Lutgarda “Lut” Calupaz, Program Accreditor for BS Entrepreneurship and Administrative and Finance Specialist of the U.S. Commercial Service in Manila; Dr. Arnualdo Macapagal, Program Accreditor (BSA) Professor of Far Eastern University- FERN College, University of the East, FEU Graduate School of Business, University of Manila. Dr. Arnel Leonardo is the ALCUCOA Technical Assistant.
The Opening Program kicked off with the processional by the LU Officials and ALCUCOA Accreditors; the invocation, national anthem and LU Hymn was led by the LU Performing Arts Club (LUPAC). The ALCU Hymn was played. Atty. Dulce Rebanal, Provincial Administrator of Laguna, delivered her Welcome Remarks. She shared the importance of the accreditation process, welcomed the LU community and the accreditors, and expressed the appreciation of the Province and the Laguna University for their shared expertise. Mr. Anastascio R.L. Cruz, Jr., Head of the Human Resource Management Office, presented the LU Officials.
The LU accreditation team was led by its President and Interim President of LAGUNA UNIVERSITY, Gov. Ramil L. Hernandez, Atty. Antonio P. Relova, Vice President for Administration and Finance; Dr. Monette O. Bato, Vice President for Planning, Research and Extension, and Dr. Colegio S. Gascon, Vice President for Academic Affairs. Dr. Gascon led the Academic Council and LU accreditation Team. The Institutional Team Leaders of the Ten (10) areas of Accreditation, together with the Deans of the respective team of program-level accreditation team of LU; Dr. Norayda M. Dimaculangan, Dean-College of Entrepreneurship, Management and Accountancy (CEMA), Dr. Rosemarie D. Sabado, Dean of the College of Education, Prof. Numeriano B. Aguado, Dean of the College of Arts, Sciences and Technology (CAST). Their respective of program chairs and faculty-coordinators prepared the pertinent documents for review. Dr. Norayda M. Dimaculangan presented the LU accreditation team, per program. The Senior High students showcased their talents through lively cultural dances.
In behalf of the ALCUCOA President, Dr. Raymundo P. Arcega, the ALCUCOA Accreditation team awarded the Presidential Medallion of ALCUCOA awarded to Gov. Ramil L. Hernandez, for the first time, in ALCUCOA history. The Provincial Capitol Band accompanied the opening program with a live tune. Selected Grade 12 Students performed during the event. Dr. Colegio S. Gascon gave his closing remarks.
The faculty, staff and students, went through a series of interviews, observation, and documents scrutiny from the panel of accreditors. The above-mentioned programs went through the accreditation process for Candidate Status, Level I and Level II, respectively. The Exit Conference was conducted at Asia Blooms Hotel, as a final activity of the three-day accreditation. Dr. Gualolarina C. Fernandeez, RGC hosted both, Opening and EXIT Conference. LU Performing Arts Club (LUPAC) sang the national anthem and LU Hymn. Each member of the accreditation team shared their impressions of the three (3) day event. Prof. Nomeriano B. Aguado, Mr. Napoleon Taleonco, Program Chair of the BS Ed, and Ms. Dolores Magbuhos, Faculty-BAC Program, shared their heartfelt message and experiences of the accreditation of their programs. Dr. Monette O. Bato, gave the closing remarks.
The ALCUCOA team evaluated ten (10) areas of accreditation standards, namely: Employability and Entrepreneurship; Governance and Administration; Curriculum and Instruction, Faculty, Student Development Services, Extension Services/Community Involvement, Research, Laboratories and Physical Plant. The results of this visit will be announced in 2020.
In can be recalled that, Laguna University received its certificates for Level 1 and Candidate Status bestowed by the ALCUCOA Board, represented by Dr. Raymundo P. Arcega, President and Executive Director to accord the accreditation results of the September 2016 visit, last March 22, 2019. Awarded to LU was the Level 1 Status for B Secondary Education Major in Mathematics, BEED, and BSE Major in English while BA in Communication and BS in Information Technology received the Candidate Status.
WELCOME REMARKS FROM ATTY. DULCE H. REBANAL (Representing GOVERNOR RAMIL L. HERNANDEZ, Interim President and Chairman of the Board of Regents, LAGUNA UNIVERSITY) during the OPENING ceremony.
Atty. Rebanal, in her welcome remarks, said, “ It is my pleasure to be in front of the esteemed accreditors It has been an invigorating process to review seriously, what LU is doing right now; how are we doing it and how we may do it better. The accreditation process will enable our educational community, our educators, ours administrators, the members of the faculty, our students, the parents, to critically assess our programs, to analyze our weaknesses, to thereby converting it to strength, and ultimately prose actions, on areas that need improvement. 2019 marks the 13t year of LU’s existence. In its 13th year, LU has changed the lives of our students, via academic and extracurricular programs Lu has long started to be known on the community.”
She added, “If we really want to maintain that respect, maintain the recognition, and, if we really want to progress towards the standards of excellence; continuous evaluation of our programs is indeed necessary. That’s why we are very grateful and appreciative of this accreditation process. We are thankful to all the members of ALCUCOA accreditors, for spending time and your effort to be with us, to give us feedback, to give us insight on how we are to improve our system at LU. We welcome the accreditation team as our ardent partners of our educational community. We certainly know that your insights, your inputs and suggestions, your recommendation, because we certainly know, that your insights, suggestions and would lead us to a better LAGUNA UNIVERSITY. “
