With the theme, “The Emerging Technologies to Cope with the Challenges of the 21st Century”, the faculty members of Laguna University, Information Technology and Computer Science department, attended the Annual Regional Conference on IT Education on September 19-21, 2019 at NDN Resorts, Barangay, Aya Talisay Batangas. The said annual conference of ICT professionals aims to make the academic institution offering ITE Programs to be more proactive with the challenges and opportunities of the recent developments in IT education and to provide a unique forum for ICT Professionals to discuss the latest research, development, applications, issues and strategies in ICT, explore new technologies, and to identify solutions for today’s challenges in IT.
The LU delegation, headed by Dean Numeriano B. Aguado joined the other ICT professionals from more than 50 colleges and universities in Region 4.
The first day of conference focused on the updates on technology in collaboration with TESDA Programs, presented by Regional Director Florencio F. Sunico Jr. CESO III. Dir. Sunico emphasized that the demand for workforce in the country is very high and that emergence Industrial Revolution 4.0 has changed the landscape of educational innovation adapted by Higher Education Institutions (HEI), to hone the skills of the students to be able to cater international demands. In addition, Engr. Policarpo Tena, President Tena Innovations, Inc., dwelt on the geographical information system and its application.
In the second day, a talk about “Tensor Flow” was delivered by Engr. Algefmarc Almocera, the PH Director and Group Architect of Elephant Venture Inc., the main focus of his topic was on algorithm that can be embedded to the system and the latest application of its algorithm. A robot demo followed by Ms. Nikka Allen Santos, the Technical Specialist Manager for Allied Courses of Hytec Power Inc., wherein the robots can be embedded to the existing system used by the different companies in the Philippines. Mr. Geary Hinolan, Analytic Engineer from SAAS Institute, tackled about the Power of Data Analytics, the discussion evolved on the use of different data analytics on Big Data.
Lastly, on the third day, a topic on “Gamification in Education” was introduced by Mr. Eufer L. Pasion, an Operation Lead from Line Learning and Development Solutions. A game called “minecraft for education” can be used as an aid for teaching the students, he emphasized that the game can be used as an added tool for transferring knowledge for the students. Dean Rosalie B. Alday, from CISCO Networking Academy Regional Center talked about “learn without limits: Cisco Collaboration for Education”., reiterating that CISCO Certified individuals have greater edge in the IT world.
