August 13, 2019 – At exactly 8 in the morning, the Academic Year 2019-2020 at Laguna University commenced. It started with the traditional flag ceremony held in front of New Building, led by the students from the College of Education.
The university welcomed 1,668 new freshmen. As of August 13, there are 4,004 students in total, college and senior high school combined. It is said to be the highest number of students enrolled in the university for the past years.
Dr. Rosemarie Sabado, Dean of the College of Education, was the first to welcome the returning students and also the newly added family members of the LU community.“Welcome to the Home of Green Buffaloes.
It was followed by the announcement of the school registrar, Prof.Agnes Ycogo, regarding the changes about the room assignments. With this year’s overwhelming number of students, the Athlete’s Village opened its doors to accommodate students from the Bachelor of Elementary Education, Bachelor of Secondary Education and BS Tourism Management degree programs.
Furthermore, Engr. Jen Sorel Jasareno notified the students who will take up ROTC for their NSTP course about the changes in its usual schedule. He also encouraged everyone to avail the Red Cross insurance card that will be valid for one year.
Speaking on behalf of the student body was Erica Barlas, president of the Central Student Council (CSC). She mentioned that the students are always welcome to visit the CSC office if they have any inquiries concerning their stay in the university.
Finally, Prof. Emelyn Napiza, Head of the Office of Student Affairs and Services (OSAS), was the last to greet the students. She urged the upper class students to serve as good examples to the new freshmen and encourage everyone to enjoy every bit of the school year.
