“The number of enrollees for LU SHS escalated to over 501 for Grade 11 and 303 for Grade 12,” Vice President for Academic Affairs, Dr. Colegio S. Gascon stated in his welcome remarks during the LU-Senior High School Orientation (LU SHS) on August 15 held at Cultural Center of Laguna.
Dr. Carina Macalos gave off an inspirational message on behalf of the LU Interim President, Gov. Ramil L. Hernandez and talked about the vision of LU for students to become globally competitive.
Ms. Darlene S. Velasco, new SHS faculty member, presented the institution’s Vision and Mission statement as well as the LU Officials.
To provide the new students and parents with pertinent information about LU, Dr. Crispulo Alarde Jr., Principal of SHS, discussed the SHS Curriculum. Moreover, Prof. Agnes G. Ycogo oriented the students about the DepEd Vouchers Program.
Dance, Rhythm, Entertainment, Music-ers (DREAMers) took part in the program by performing an acapella as an ice breaker.
Prof. Emelyn U. Napiza, Head of Office of the Students Affairs and Services introduced the SHS faculty members to parents and new students. In addition to that, Dr. Gualolarina C. Fernandez RGC, University Guidance Counselor presented the services offered by the Guidance and Counseling Office such as attending students’ emotional and academic concerns. The rules and regulations of the university were also discussed by the Dean of Discipline, Dr. Olga J. Domingo.
Meanwhile, Ms. Carolyn R. Yosolon, one of the university nurses spoke about the services that the University Clinic provides. Mrs. Lourdes V. Soriano, the university librarian, described the library with open shelves and that it is accessible to all the students and explained as well, the basic rules to remember while inside the library.
To show the improvement in LU SHS premises, Mr. Gabrielle A. Collantes, GPTA President also gave a talk about the association’s accomplishments during the Brigada Eskwela.
After the orientation, the program proceeded with the Awarding of Certificates and medals to the outstanding Grade 11 students for school year 2017-2018.
This year’s Orientation and Honors’ Assembly hosted by Ms. Kylie Magin C. Sumiran and Mr. Jeffrey M. Santos, SHS faculty members, was another success for the institution.
